3 Ingredient Crispy Cheese Bites (No Flour, Egg, Breading, or Butter)
These crispy cheese bites are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. They need just 3 ingredients and don’t require any flour, breading, egg, butter or deep frying. The cheese bites are easy to make and can be served with honey or other sauces.

These crispy feta bites are so easy to make. They are light and crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. They are often prepared this way in Greek cuisine. I like serving them as an appetizer with some honey drizzled over them. However, they can also be used in salads, served with crackers or toast and more.
Ingredients
- Feta
- Cornstarch or potato starch
- Avocado oil
Feta: This recipe requires a block of feta cheese, which is cut into small cubes. Feta is ideal for this recipe because it keeps its form and doesn’t fully melt like many other types of cheese. It also develops a crispy exterior when heated. Other cheeses similar to feta will likely work, but you do want to choose a firm cheese that won’t lose its shape when heated.
Cornstarch or potato starch: The feta cheese cubes are lightly coated with a thin layer of cornstarch or potato starch. This helps the feta crisp up even more and absorbs some of the oil so that the feta doesn’t taste oily. Cornstarch will give the cubes a lighter, more golden finish. Potato starch will give a thicker crunch, but the cheese cubes will also come out a little darker and look a little starchier.
Avocado oil: The cheese cubes are heated in avocado oil until crispy and dark golden brown on all sides. You can substitute avocado oil with another cooking oil, like olive oil, canola oil or vegetable oil.
How to Make Crispy Cheese Bites
- The feta cheese is patted dry and then cut into bite sized cubes, about 3/4 to 1 inch.
- Lightly roll each cheese cube in cornstarch or potato starch. Shake or rub off any excess starch.
- Add 2 tbsp of oil in a small nonstick skillet and bring to medium heat. Add a few cubes of cheese and cook until the bottom is dark golden brown, flip and repeat until all sides are dark golden brown. Remove cheese cubes from heat and repeat with remaining cheese. If needed, you can add more oil to the pan.
- Allow the cheese to cool a little before serving. Because feta is salty, I recommend serving with honey, hot honey or some other sweet sauce.
Expert Tips
- Feta cheese is quite salty on its own, so this is best eaten with a sweet sauce. You can also use it on top of crackers, toast or in salads.
- The cheese cubes come out more golden brown with a cornstarch coating but the potato starch coating will produce more crunch.
- I did test this in an air fryer, but the cheese did not crisp up as much and also didn’t turn golden brown. The air fryer also caused the cheese to turn more soft so they fall apart more easily. Pan frying in a skillet is the best method for this recipe.

3 Ingredient Crispy Cheese Bites
Ingredients
- 1 (8oz/227g) block feta cheese, about 219 grams after drained
- 2 tbsp (16g) cornstarch, can also use potato starch
- 2 tbsp (1floz/30ml) avocado oil, or more as needed
Instructions
- Drain water from feta cheese and pat dry with a paper towel. Cut feta into small cubes, about 3/4 to 1 inch.
- Add cornstarch to a small bowl. Roll each cube of cheese in cornstarch, until the cube is coated in a light layer of starch. Shake off or wipe off any excess so the cornstarch layer is not caking or too thick. Place coated cubes on a sheet of parchment paper.
- Add oil to a small nonstick skillet (I used a 5.5 inch skillet). If you are using a larger skillet, you may need to add more oil. Bring oil to medium heat over the stove. Once oil is heated, carefully place a few cheese cubes into the hot oil and cook the cubes a few minutes on each side until dark golden brown and crispy. Remove finished cheese cubes and place onto a wire rack to cool slightly and drain off excess oil. Repeat with remaining cubes. If your oil level gets too low, you can add more oil.
- Allow the cheese cubes to cool a little before serving. I recommend serving them with honey, hot honey or some other sweet sauce because the cheese cubes are salty. You can also use on top of crackers, in salads and more. Store uneaten cheese cubes in an airtight container in the fridge. Cheese cubes are best enjoyed soon after they are done cooking because they will lose their crispy exterior once fully cooled and placed into the fridge.

Simple. I need to try this with firm tofu but add seasoning to the corn starch.
It works really well with tofu and you can also do it in the air fryer!
I will try this.
Great! Let us know how you like it!
