Last month we had dinner at Gami Sushi. The small sushi restaurant is tucked inside a Carmel Valley plaza that houses quite a few other restaurants including Marketplace Grille and Royal India.
Small Sashimi Combo
I chose the small sashimi combo. The sashimi plate comes with 12 pieces of fish (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore). It also includes a bowl of miso soup and a side salad.
The sashimi plate had a lovely presentation. The cuts of fish while very generous, were too thick and long for my liking. I don’t mean to complain about the quantity, but how sashimi is sliced, and the thickness of it can definitely alter the taste and feel of the fish and I just felt that the extra thick and long slices just weren’t ideal.
Fuji and Shrimp Crunch Rolls
Mr. K chose two rolls. The Fuji roll consists of crab and cucumber and is topped with spicy tuna. The shrimp crunch has shrimp tempura, avocado and crab, and is topped with tempura crumbs and eel sauce. Both rolls were fairly large and more than enough to fill one person.
At the end of our meal, they also served complimentary ice cream, which of course we couldn’t pass on.
I believe the ice cream is supposed to be green tea flavored, but I couldn’t taste a hint of green tea at all. Perhaps ours was just very diluted.
Overall, I think this is a decent option to grab sushi if you are in the area and craving sushi. The menu is pretty extensive and the service was nice. However, it’s not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit.

Sis took us here some weeks ago for lunch and it was pretty good (& affordable). They didn’t serve the complimentary ice cream cones though at the end 🙁 Maybe that’s offered only at dinner.
hmm, I think maybe it’s only during dinner!
My favorite dish at Gami is the Ahi Napoleon – seared ahi with avocado, wasabi cream, teriyaki glaze, and nori on crispy wontons. They have a few non-rice offerings – Summer, French Kiss, Spring, and Lettuce – that I really enjoy (I can’t eat much rice) and which would be good for the low-carb folks.
thanks for that! I’ll keep that in mind next time!
