Lofty Coffee Co.

Lofty Coffee Co. recently opened a new location in Little Italy. The popular coffee bar and eatery also has locations in Solana Beach and Encinitas. The Little Italy location features an open air structure with seating on its outside patio. The menu includes coffees, teas, pastries and sandwiches.

I’ve never been to the other locations of Lofty Coffee Co., but was very interested in checking out this new space and it just so happened I was in the area the first weekend it was open.

I’d already had lunch at Herb & Eatery, so I passed on the tempting pastries.

Aztec Mocha and Turkish Latte

I was quite thrilled when our drinks came out. This is definitely some of the prettiest latte art I’ve seen in San Diego. While I’ve seen the swan many times on Instagram, this was the first time I’ve received a latte with the swan drawn on top.

The Turkish latte is infused with cardamom and sweetened with raw sugar. The cardamom flavor was quite strong in this coffee. I usually only like cardamom when it’s just a hint of it, so this was a little too much for me. However, it was interesting to try and it’s not a drink I’ve seen often at coffee bars in San Diego.

Aztec Mocha was Mr. K’s choice. It has dark cacao, cinnamon and cayenne. Again, the spices caught me off guard. The cayenne pepper added quite a kick to the drink.

I haven’t been to the other locations of Lofty Coffee Co., so I don’t know if their espresso drinks are always so boldly flavored. We’ll have to work our way through the menu to find our favorites, but I am excited for another coffee bar to join the Little Italy scene and this new branch is more convenient for me to visit.
