During a recent road trip to Los Angeles, we went to check out Mo-Mo-Paradise. The Japanese hot pot chain has several locations throughout Asia and two locations in Los Angeles.

The setup is all-you-can-eat for a fixed price. Included in the price are the hot pot ingredients, soft drinks, boba tea, and ice cream.

You start with a soup base. We chose to do a split pot so we could try two different bases. We chose tonkotsu and sukiyaki. I personally preferred the tonkotsu. I found the sukiyaki to be far too sweet.

All the hot pot ingredients are laid out buffet-style, except for the meat, which you need to order. You can have up to three orders of meat at a time.

Japanese hot pot usually features high quality meat and this place is no exception. There are three meat options: pork, beef and lean beef. We tried them all and enjoyed each of them. The thin slices of meat were melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. I was surprised to find I even enjoyed the lean beef, which can often be too dry when cooked in hot pot. We placed quite a few orders of the meat and it was definitely the highlight of the meal.

The vegetables and other raw hot pot ingredients are displayed in a Farmer’s Market section of the restaurant.

Drinks included artisan sodas, matcha milk tea and peach jasmine tea.

There is also a large selection of condiments.

You have 90 minutes to eat your fill. At the end of your meal, there is a choice of three ice cream flavors: mint, vanilla and coffee. I opted for the coffee one.

Overall, we enjoyed our meal here. I really loved the high quality tender meat and the service was very friendly, constantly refilling our meat orders. Japanese hot pot can get pricey, especially when it isn’t all-you-can-eat, so this is a good option to fulfill your Japanese hot pot cravings. I think the prices here are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food offered. You might like to read about or hot pot take-out experience at the Mira Mesa Mo-Mo-Paradise location.
