Boyfriend and I enjoy trying Indian buffets. Normally, Indian food tends to be expensive and I can never decide what I want because there are so many different curries I like. Most Indian restaurants offer a lunch buffet, which is a lot cheaper than dinner (usually $10-12 per person), offers a variety of curries, and gives complementary nan.
We’ve tried quite a few of the Indian buffets in San Diego. Some have been disappointing with tasteless curries or lack of variety. However, we found one we really enjoyed at Royal India. The curries here are tasty and they offer a good variety of curries and other Indian favorites. The nan is fluffy and delicious and served hot and fresh. Lunch is $12.99, but you can find coupons online for $9.99, also they have tiny paper menus at the front of the restaurant which also has a coupon for $9.99 for lunch buffet.
Boyfriend and I enjoy the mango lassis here as well. Smooth, sweet, not icy.
We were given a basket of hot nan soon after being seated.
I love the nan here. Not oily, not burned at the bottom. Fluffy and chewy. yum!
The waiters are very attentive. They are constantly checking the buffet, and will quickly refill the items that are gone. Here are some pictures that Boyfriend took of the buffet display:
There are some salads, some sauces, balsamic rice, fried onions, vegetable samosa, lamb korma, chicken masala, vegetable korma, tandoori chicken, paneer, daal and mango pudding. The one thing I was disappointed about was that on this visit they didn’t have the kheer for dessert, which they had last time I went.
The curries are flavorful. The samosa are not too soggy or too oily. The rice is fluffy and not too soft. The mango pudding was a bit too sweet for me though. Here’s some pictures of the plates of food we had:
What a great find! Thanks!

hopefully you can use it
I”m def. going to try it out
I’ve never tried the chicken kebab. I’ll have to try it next time.
How exciting! I hope it turns out well!
Very good aromatic food. Royal India is simply the best Indian food in San Diego. I do not even look at any other restaurant. Chicken Garlic Kabab on the sizzer, mango pineapple curry and garlic nan. I can live on it.
My boyfriend also like Indian food and has been to every restaurant in San Diego. He is in so much love with Royal India that he wants Royal India’s Indian food in San Diego to be catered on our wedding. We are excited.
Boyfriend loves the chicken masala!
It is very nicely decorated inside, and I enjoy the food
Royal India is my favorite Indian restaurant in San Diego. Simply the best curry. Chicken tikka masala is great and meat is very tender.
I tried Royal India for my friends birthday and it is incredibly great. The best Indian food in very elegant ambiance.
Thanks for the rec! Took me a while to figure out what place you were referring to. Typing in “Asuka” gave me a lot of japanese things… but I believe you meant Ashoka The Great. Now that I found it, I’m excited to try it out.
Hiya!
Check out Asuka The Great on Miramar for an Indian buffet. REALLY REALLY well done. The texture and flavor on their dishes are spot on.. and the naan is heavenly!
