These easy no bake cookies are just three ingredients and healthier than traditional no bake cookies. Everything is mixed in one bowl for easy clean-up. The cookies make a delicious snack that will also satisfy your craving for something sweet.
Traditional no bake cookies require butter, milk and sugar. But these ingredients are not needed for this simplified recipe.
Ingredients
- Rolled Oats
- Peanut Butter
- Chocolate Chips
Rolled Oats
Make sure to use rolled oats and not quick oats. Rolled oats will hold together better and provide texture for these cookies.
Peanut Butter
Peanut butter can be substituted with other nut butters like almond butter. However, peanut butter is thicker and I think the cookies hold together best with peanut butter.
Chocolate Chips
All the sweetness for these cookies comes from the chocolate chips which are melted and mixed with the peanut butter. I used semi-sweet chocolate chips because I prefer dark chocolate flavor. But if you want something sweeter, I would recommend using milk chocolate chips.
Making No Bake Cookies
- The only cooking involved for these cookies is melting the chocolate. This can be done on the stove or in the microwave. I used the microwave.
- Once the chocolate is fully melted, it’s mixed with the peanut butter.
- The oats are added in last, mixing them until they are all moistened with the chocolate peanut butter mixture.
- The cookie dough is rolled up into a tight ball and pressed down to form a thick disk. Then you freeze the cookies until set.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips semisweet or milk chocolate
- 1/2 cup natural creamy peanut butter
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Add chocolate chips to a large microwave-safe mixing bowl.
- Melt chocolate in microwave or on stovetop using double boiler method. If melting in the microwave, heat chocolate at 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until chocolate is completely melted.
- Add the peanut butter to the melted chocolate and stir until evenly mixed.
- Stir in oats until all oats are moistened and evenly combined.
- Scoop out 2 tbsp dough and form a compact ball. Some of the chocolate peanut butter mixture will stick to your hand. That is normal. Place ball onto prepared baking sheet and press down to flatten into a thick round disk. Repeat with remaining dough.
- Place cookie sheet into freezer and freeze until cookies are firm (30 to 60 minutes). You can leave the cookies in there longer as well and just bring them to room temperature for a few minutes before eating. Store uneaten cookies at room temperature or in the fridge or freezer if you want to store them longer.
Notes
- I used unsweetened peanut butter but you can use sweetened.
- If you prefer a sweeter cookie, use milk chocolate chips as they are sweeter than semisweet chocolate chips. You can also add more than 1/2 cup chocolate.
- Be careful not to overpack your oats when measuring them. You don't want any more than 1 1/2 cups. If you are a little under, that is fine.
- Nutrition estimate is calculated with unsweetened peanut butter and semisweet chocolate chips.

People can be so negative. They make changes to your recipe then complain about it. I very much appreciate the time and effort you put in to this and the fact that you take the time to answer us. Keep up the good work and very sincerely THANK YOU!
You’re welcome! Thanks for your nice comment 🙂
A wonderful recipe to try! ?
Very fast and easy to make. I made them for the first time today and my husband loves them!
If you if have kids it would be a great activity to do together
A++
So glad you enjoyed them!
Question please all I have is Jeff reduced fat creamy peanut butter! Have the other ingredients and can’t run to store for natural peanut butter, Can I use it?
It should work!
Can you make without peanut butter? I am using a nut allergy free chocolate chips for a cookie exchange. I was thinking of just oats, chocolate chips and maybe cranberries….
The peanut butter holds the cookies together so if you want to avoid nuts, we recommend trying sunbutter. It will change the flavor, but should work fine.
Can you make these with almond or cashew butter? We don’t eat peanuts at our house. I saw your recommendation of sun butter, but never tried it.
You can use other nut butters, but we find that the cookies hold together best with peanut butter so just keep that in mind.
Jennifer there is another recipe on this site* that uses banana instead of peanut butter. I’ve made them, and do suggest adding the extra 2TB oats. I also pressed a few toppings into them (raisins, cinnamon sugar, coconut, hemp seeds, rainbow sprinkles) – the cinnamon sugar went first!
*Its called 3 Ingredient No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (No Flour, Butter, or Oil)
I made these with the “help” of my 2 year old. (Thankfully he was cooking play food by the time I was forming the cookies – I used my hands and it was messy!)
I only used 1/2c of chocolate chips and found the cookies didn’t come together well. A splash of water made them nice and sticky in a pinch. I will try using more chocolate next time, for the stickiness and more chocolate taste.
We’re glad you had fun making these! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can you use cocoa powder? How much?
Sorry, but we’ve only used chocolate chips to make this recipe.
These were absolutely DELICIOUS!! The only thing I did different was I used your suggested 1 cup of chocolate chips instead of 1/2. I also flattened them with damp spoon. I would definitely make these over and over again. Eating one satisfied my sweet tooth!
I’m so glad you liked them!
Thank you so much for this. I’m a cardiac patient and so with diet changes I’m trying to find snacks. I am now a huge oatmeal eater (very heart healthy) so I have a ton of rolled oats in the pantry. I eat the natural peanut butter now to avoid the fats and oils so I had this in the house too. I mentioned the recipe and the dark chocolate comments and the wife buys some dark chocolate chips (not too healthy but better than milk chocolate). So easy to make and fills the need for a treat but still be somewhat healthy! Score!
I’m glad you find this recipe helpful! thank you for sharing your story
I only have the quick oats …….. have you tried it with those? I was just wondering how they would turn out.
quick oats don’t hold together as well. It will still taste fine but the cookies don’t really hold together as well.
A bit messy during the forming part, but are a lower sugar alternative to the originals with the same tastes!
I’m glad you think they taste the same as the original. Yes it is a little bit messy to form because of the melted chocolate
Can u make it with just peanut butter instead of chocolte and how much peanut butter
Here is my peanut butter version: https://kirbiecravings.com/healthy-no-bake-oatmeal-cookies/
Yums! Just made this with smooth peanut butter and some dark Choco. Reduced the amount of rolled oats and it turned out perfect!
We’re glad it worked out great for you!
People just amaze me!!! They can’t read the entire recipe so they ask questions that are clearly in the recipe or theirs didn’t turn out like the picture therefore you’re a fraud. Good golly if you aren’t happy with the FREE recipe and a person who FREELY gave their time for it just keep scrolling!!! What is wrong with people & grown adults at that!
Thank you for your comment! 🙂
Agreed! Sheesh!
I am 65 year old woman and this recipe took me right back to my childhood!! Mom used to whip these delicious wonders up all the time!! Still love their simplicity and healthiness!!!
I love its simplicity too. I’m so glad you enjoyed!
Made with some chocolate that I had just made – used half a cup but too moist. Next time will try with 1/3 cup. Unfortunately couldn’t fit biscuit tray in 2 door freezer. So put in fridge. Worked out good. Thanks for the recipe.
Yes you can try with less chocolate if you found the batter too moist or you can also add some more oats. I’m glad it worked out for you though!
Would the oatmeal be chewy? How about toasting it first for some crunch? I too like adding coconut.
The oats don’t get fully softened so they will taste similar to how they are uncooked. You can try toasting but I don’t know if they will stay crunchy
There are always those negative Nelly’s who want to complain and whine or say it’s not what you say it is, OMG it’s a no fail 3 ingredient recipe, read it carefully before you make it, they were a hit in our family ?
I’m so happy they were a hit with your family!
Awesome, i did drop the amount of oats down to 1 1/4 cup, first batch was a but dry. 5 ?
I’m glad you got it to work for you!
Can I use regular chocolate instead of chocolate chips because I don’t have it
yes that is fine
I like that these aren’t too sweet. I wanted to make something for the kids that was semi-healthy and this recipe was just what i needed
I’m glad they enjoyed!
These turned out great! I liked the salty and sweet combo. They aren’t like regular cookies but still tasty
I’m glad you liked it!
Great easy recipe, tastes is addictive . I took the liberty of adding shredded coconut,it took it to another level. I referred it to my sister she made it straight away and she agreed. Good work.
I’m so happy it worked out well for you. I love the idea of adding coconut!
The recipe for NO BAKE COOKIES is different than the one she pictures. It is drier and is not as moist as her photo. I had to add more than half a cup of chocolate. I also added a little melted butter. No thanks.I will stick to my son’s recipe!
I’m sorry they turned out dry for you but these cookies in the photo are the exact recipe I posted. So I did not have dry cookies. A few things you want to keep in mind: make sure you are using creamy natural peanut butter. I’m talking the drippy kind that you need to stir before using. Also make sure to not overpack your oats when measuring them.
My grandmother in 1940’s use to make this in a sheet pan and they gave it to patients in the hospital as a treat. Do you need to use a special oatmeal or will any oatmeal do?
you just need regular rolled oats
Just started WW. Any idea how many points these are? Thank you, Julie
sorry I don’t know
Add all of the ingredients into the WW app and devide by serving and you should get the points.
Pay attention everyone
Read the recipe !!!!
=)
Quarantine has left me with an odd assortment of leftover goodies in the pantry. This couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve got those very items ready to make a triple batch because we all know one is never enough…lol
Honestly a huge thank you for sharing such an easy recipe.
Much love from my soon to be satisfied family.
I hope your family enjoys!
Thank you for this – I failed to see that in any other comments
You are very welcome =)
How many cookies do these measurements yield??
11, as stated in the recipe box under servings
Is the no bake peanut butter only version just oats and peanutbutter???
if you are viewing the post for the no bake peanut butter one you’ll see the ingredients. it is not just peanut butter and oats.
Can you use ordinary cooking chocolate instead of chocolate chips.
if it is sweetened, then yes
Peanut butter is basically made with peanuts and hydrogenated vegetable oil, with the latter being used to make half the alternatives to butter and lard.
Saying they have no butter or oil as ingredients is a bit of a stretch.
Natural creamy peanut butter (which is what this recipe calls for) is only made of peanuts and salt. there is no hydrogenated oil. So, no it’s not a stretch to say this recipe has no butter or oil in the ingredients.
Are these keto?
