We visited one of the locations in Orange County a few years ago and enjoyed the baked goods and the nostalgic and fun décor, so we were excited for the San Diego location.

We visited during soft opening week. The patio area is not yet set-up, but they do have some seating indoors and a full menu available.photo of different baked goods sold at Blackmarket Bakeryphoto of pastries from Blackmarket Bakery

We got our goods to-go. Here is what we ordered:

Farmhouse Sandwich
photo of Farmhouse SandwichEggs, bacon, cheese, sandwiched between a brioche bun. This was a good sandwich, but not particularly special. We’ll probably try something else next time.

Cold Brew

Chocolate Croissant
photo of Chocolate CroissantThe croissant was loaded with chocolate, though the pastry itself didn’t have quite as any flaky layers as I usually prefer for croissants.

Black Widow Tart
Black Widow TartThis is one of their signature desserts. It has a chocolate tart shell filled with caramel and topped with chocolate ganache filling. When you cut into the tart, the gooey caramel layer just spills out. I remember liking this when we had it a few years ago and enjoyed this one as well.

Overall, we had a good first visit. We’re excited to see this bakery open up in San Diego and will have to come back to try more once they’ve settled in.
