It’s been a year and a half since my first taste of Dynamo Donuts and I’ve been obsessing and dreaming about them ever since. On a recent trip to San Francisco, I had one stop I wanted to make more than anything: another trip to Dynamo Donuts.

The store front of Dynamo Donuts is quite small, but the offerings are not. There are two things that really stand out about Dynamo Donuts for me: the flavors and the texture.

Flavors. Dynamo Donuts offered some bold and unique flavor choices that change daily.

Normally I’m a ‘just plain glazed donut’ type of girl, but when it comes to these gourmet donuts, it’s all about the flavors. There were so many interesting choices, I decided to get a dozen. Look how pretty and colorful they look.

I got the following flavors: caramel apple, caramel de sel, spiced chocolate, passionfruit milk chocolate, pumpkin chocolate chip, chocolate rose, vanilla bean, lemon thyme, chocolate rosemary almond, sticky bun and maple glazed bacon apple. If you order a dozen, you get one for free.

The flavor choices are quite bold and may not be for everyone. You can definitely taste the herbs and spices as described. I didn’t love all of them, but I liked trying so many different flavors.

Some of my favorites included the chocolate rose, maple glazed bacon apple, vanilla bean and caramel de sel.

Texture. These donuts are very soft and melt in your mouth. I love the texture of these donuts and I’m not quite sure how they achieve it. They don’t taste oily or fried. The chocolate based donuts have a more dense, cake donut texture. The non-chocolate ones are softer, melt-in-your-mouth. I love both donut bases.
The only donut I didn’t love was the sticky bun. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t stand out like the other donuts.
Both times I’ve been here, the service is super friendly and the shop is always busy. I wish they weren’t so far away, or else I’d be here every day. I already miss them.
