Most of you know of my obsession with snow ice: The shaved ice made of blocks of ice that are frozen with milk, producing a super creamy and soft ice that shaves off in thin ribbons.
This past weekend I went to check out a new snow ice place: Fluffy Duffy’s Snow Cream. I’m starting to see the label “snow cream” more often now. I first read about it on This Tasty Life and even though I’m not in the college area a lot, I had to make a special trip.
I was pretty happy with the prices, cheaper than the average in San Diego at $3.50 for a small. They currently only offer four flavors, but two are ones I’ve never seen before: chili mango and horchata.
The toppings include a selection of fruits and some mochi, cookies and candy. There are also five syrups to choose from (chocolate, white chocolate, caramel, strawberry and the fifth one not pictured is condensed milk). For each snow ice, you get one free topping and unlimited choices of syrup.
We spotted the panda-pattern snow ice machines, which is a brand of Taiwanese manufactured machines. In addition to their label claiming to be “No. 1,” Mr. K is convinced these machines make shave the softest snow ice.
Chili Mango, mango topping, caramel syrup
Mr. K got a small chili mango. The flavor was a little hard to get used to for me. I’m still on the fence whether I like chili mango. I like the sweet dried chili mangoes and the iced smoothie drink, but I didn’t quite enjoy the flavor here. My taste buds were having a hard time accepting the spicy chili with the sweet snow ice. Mr. K thought it reminded him a lot of the Mexican chili mango flavored candies he enjoyed as a kid.
Taro, mochi topping, condensed milk syrup
I chose to stick to a more classic flavor. The snow ice was quite soft and enjoyable. Look at those thin, pretty layers!
Overall, we enjoyed our snow ice experience here. It’s a little out of the way for me, so I don’t know how often I’ll be back, but it’s great to see more snow ice places popping up in San Diego and spreading across the county.

Hello Kirbie! Alex the owner here. I was actually the one who served you guys! Thanks for the post, we’re trying to get the word out and appreciate any & all feedback! Not Mexican, we’re just experimenting with flavors. So any feedback is great to decide what our keepers are. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to know!
Oops, I didn’t realize you are one of the owners! I’m glad you are experimenting with flavors!
This will get me to drive to El Cajon.
hehe, nice!
Hmmm, now i’m curious about this place, especially with the chili mango flavor (not a horchata fan though). they should offer chamoy as a topping. it would be like those chamango drinks that i like! i wonder if the owner is Mexican? those flavors would go well down here in CV.
The taro looks quite pretty! I love the layers and how soft it looks!MK
I think they are trying to keep the toppings very basic since there wasn’t much of a selection. I am not sure what the owners are as they weren’t there when I was in. Maybe Mary knows?
It looks like they are either rotating out flavors, or experimenting with what flavors to have since they had nine flavors when I visited. I liked it enough and it’s a really good price compared to other places so I know I’ll be back. I hope they have the taro the next time I go, I’d love to try it.
Ooh, nine flavors. that sounds better. we didnt get offered any samples either.
