During my Torrance/LA trip, my friend introduced me to this lovely bakery, Pâtisserie Chantilly, which offers French-style desserts with a Japanese influence.
Once inside, there was a large display of individual cake slices and other desserts. They don’t allow photos of the display, which I realized after snapping about two photos.
It was hard to choose, since everything look good. But here is what we ended up with:
Gâteau Fraise (fresh strawberries, cream, chiffon cake) and Choux aux Sésames (black sesame cream, black sesame choux)
The strawberry cake was nice and light. The black sesame cream puff is one of their mos popular items because of the unique flavor. I’ve never had a black sesame flavored cream puff until now.
Othello (chocolate cake and black sesame)
They had several black sesame flavored desserts and I couldn’t resist trying them since it’s a rare flavor to be offered.
Grapefruit Gelée
This was very light and refreshing and I loved the jelly pieces.
Avignon (white and milk chocolate mousse, lemon caramel)
Black Sesame Macaron
We really loved the desserts here. They were so pretty and we enjoyed everything we got. It was a perfect way to spend an afternoon and I definitely want to revisit. You can view the entire selection of cakes and photos on their website.

I love black sesame, too! I guess I’ll have to plan a road trip to the this area.
I’m surprised black sesame isn’t used as a flavor option more often. But yes, check this place out!
Those black sesame pastries look so good as well as that grapefruit gelee. I must bookmark this for a future food road trip! They have beautiful offerings there!
I think you would really like this spot!
