Kirbie's Cravings

Trader Joe’s February Edition

Trader Joe’s released a new Fearless Flyer recently, and so off I went to go pick up some of the featured items as well as some other things that caught my attention.

Coconut Creamer

I love trying all the new coconut items that Trader Joe’s keeps producing. This coconut creamer is super creamy and white, and it’s dairy free. On its own, you can taste the coconut flavor quite prominently. Once mixed with your coffee, it’s much more faint. I kind of wish it was a little stronger, but it’s still pretty enjoyable.

Chocolate Brooklyn Babka

I was searching for the Almond Danish featured in the FF, but they were out. However, this chocolate babka caught my eye. Look at the gorgeous swirls of chocolate. This pastry is extremely rich and chocolatey. I didn’t care for the artificial chocolate frosting on top, but otherwise, I enjoyed this. I also need to try making my own sometime…

Raw Pistachios

I really like that TJ carries raw nuts. So far I’ve had the cashews and Brazil nuts. I like that they have a slight chewiness to their texture, which goes away when the nuts are roasted. I was really excited to try the raw pistachios. Unfortunately, I couldn’t taste the difference. These tasted just like unsalted roasted ones to me.

Organic Power of 7 Juice

The FF describes this as a blend of seven organic juices, with no added sugars. It contains pomegranate, tart cherry, black mulberry, red grape, carrot, cranberry and blueberry juices. I thought this would be a fresh, refrigerated juice, but this was actually in the bottled juices section on the shelves. I haven’t tried this one yet, but I was hoping for something healthier.

Baby Broccoli

I had been intending on buying the kale sprouts, as TJ is one of the first stores I’ve seen offer them. But one tiny bag was nearly $4 and seemed a little expensive. Instead, I opted to buy some baby broccoli, one of my favorites. Unfortunately, these were a little on the tough side, compared to the baby broccoli I’ve had at restaurants or purchased from Specialty Produce.

Multi Colored Carrots

I’ve been in love with different colored carrots. These are a bit thicker than the ones I usually prefer from the farmer’s markets, but I haven’t had a chance to go to the farmer’s markets recently, so this worked for a quick fix. I especially like the purple carrots, which have a yellow center. I don’t know why, but I just enjoy eating the purple and yellow ones over the regular orange ones.

So that was it from my recent shopping trip. Let me know if I missed anything that I need to go back for!

  1. I’ve never had babka before, and I think this would be the easiest way to try it (I’m too impatient for yeast and there aren’t babka-wielding bakeries near me). Thanks for the round-up!

  2. That babka looks amazing! Cool carrots! I love Trader Joe’s!

  3. Whoa, look at those layers in the babka! Crazy! It does look super sweet though, more of a dessert item. I want to try the coconut creamer because I’ve been trying to stay away from milk which just messes up my stomach. Coconut creamer sounds delicious!

  4. thanks for this round-up!

  5. We’ve tried the babka and man, it is super sweet. TC likes it more than us.

  6. It all looks so yummy! I love all their coconut stuff too! The cream looks amazing!

    • i cant get enough of all the coconut stuff! i should have taken a photo of the actual cream –it looks so good. I want to just drink it straight!

  7. Last week I purchased the organic “super”  juice you show above.

I’ve mixed it with San Pellegrino (2 parts sparkling water, 1 part juice) and like that a lot.    I’ve also mixed it with Stoli Blueberry Vodka and *loved* that.  ; – )
