Trader Joe’s June Edition

overhead photo of cookies from Trader Joe'sCan you believe it’s already June? I’m having a hard time accepting that the year is half over. Over the weekend, we stopped in at Trader Joe’s to pick up some of the latest new and featured items for June. Here is what I bought.

Matcha Joe-Joe’s

Given my love for all things matcha, I’m really excited that Trader Joe’s is featuring several matcha flavored products this month. Is it too much to hope for them to go all out like they did for coffee back in March?

Matcha Joe-Joe’s have two biscuit cookies with a sweet matcha flavored cream filling. I really enjoyed these and the matcha flavor isn’t too strong. Mr. K liked them too and he doesn’t usually like matcha.

Birthday Cake Bar

A birthday cake flavored white chocolate bar! I can’t resist sprinkles and birthday-cake flavored desserts so I had to try this. I don’t usually eat white chocolate as I find it to be too sweet, so this was too much sugar for me. but it is such a cute bar.

Also, all these broken pieces? This is not me food styling. This is what happens when you let your husband put the groceries away. My perfect whole bar was already broken into all these pieces when I opened it.

Coffee Syrup

I haven’t opened this one yet, but I plan on using it in cocktails and ice cream.

Organic Coconut Aminos Seasoning Sauce

I was intrigued by this item because it uses coconut and is supposed to work as a soy sauce substitute. This one didn’t quite work for me. I do appreciate that it’s less salty than soy sauce, but it was also sweet.

Unsweetened Coconut Chips

I forgot to take a photo of this and it’s not a new item, but it is new to me. I’ve had a really hard time finding unsweetened coconut flakes for my smoothie bowls. The unsweetened ones are usually very thin shreds and I wanted something a little wider. After some research, I found what I was looking for at Trader Joe’s. The Trader Joe’s version are thick-cut, crispy unsweetened coconut shreds which work great for smoothie bowls, granola and more.

Mango & Cream Ice Cream

This was a new item last year that is again featured in this year’s June flyer. It’s one of my favorite Trader Joe’s ice creams (this photo is from last year’s purchase). I love the swirls of sweet cream and mango, something that makes it a little different from all the other mango ice creams out there.

That’s it for now. I actually made these purchases before reading the June Fearless Flyer and now I need to go back for a few things I missed, like the cauliflower pizza crust, brownie crisp coffee ice cream sandwiches, peach bellini jam and avocado citrus yogurt. Let me know if there’s anything else I need to try!

  1. Dont bother with the avocado citrus yogurt, it has a bitter flavor and semi lumpy texture. Just mash some avocado into plain green yogurt with some salt and pepper instead.

  2. Sprouts also carries unsweetened coconut chips, in larger bags and I toasted, Jen.

    • thanks for the tip! I will try out Sprouts’ version when I go there this weekend for their big melon sale.

  3. The coffee syrup is ah-may-zing. So far I’ve made it into a drink and used it as a topping for an ice cream sundae using coffee cake and vanilla ice cream. Next up, I’ll try it as part of a super-decadent brunch idea I have floating around in my head. (Which will also include generous amounts of chocolate and a touch of whiskey.)

    • I’m so curious about what your brunch idea is! I’m glad you love the syrup. I’m excited to use it soon. Also am debating whether I should just stir it in some milk.
