Kirbie's Cravings

Trader Joe’s June Edition

I realize we are already two weeks into July, but I didn’t get around to posting about this until now. And since most of the items are likely still available at Trader Joe’s, it’s still pretty relevant.

Since we moved, we stopped getting the Fearless Flyer. I’m not sure what happened. I’ve tried to get us back on the mailing list, but it just doesn’t seem to be working. I know that there is an online version of the flyer and of course I could always go into the store and pick one up, but it just isn’t the same. I used to get so excited when the Fearless Flyer popped in my mailbox and I’d read it front to back and then make a list of all the stuff I planned on buying.

Recently, I was at Trader Joe’s during their June Fearless Flyer and picked up some items. Here are some of the highlights:

“Hold the Cone” mini ice cream cones

These were so adorable, I had to get them. They are like mini versions of Nestle’s Ice Cream Drumsticks, with the crunchy sugar cone and ice cream scoop dipped in chocolate. Loved, loved these. Perfect if you are craving a small dessert and I’d imagine these would be pretty cool for a party too.

Turkey Corn Dogs

In honor of Fair season, TJ features it’s turkey corn dogs. I honestly couldn’t tell I was eating a turkey dog, but the corn dog coating was pretty good and toasted up nicely in the toaster oven.

Spinach & Kale Greek Yogurt Dip

I love spinach dip with vegetables but I try to avoid buying it since it’s full of calories, so I was really intrigued by this healthier option that uses greek yogurt and adds kale. I was afraid it would taste “too healthy” but I actually really loved it. It’s bold and flavorful, heavy on onion and garlic, so it still has the addictive quality of regular spinach dip. I’m buying this from now on. Mr. K is pretty anti-kale though, so he wasn’t a fan of this one.

Dried mandarin orange slices

I was surprised to see these because I’ve tried drying oranges before in my fruit dryer and it’s quite hard to do. Once they are dehydrated there’s pretty much nothing left behind other than skin. These did indeed maintain their juices, but were super sweet. They actually tasted a lot like dried mangoes.

Apple smoked thick-cut bacon

This was pretty good. I love thick-cut bacon with a smokey flavor.

That’s it for now. We actually also bought a bunch of different kinds of tortilla chips for salsa dipping but I didn’t document them. The unsalted ones were surprisingly delicious. If you have any new Trader Joe’s finds, please let me know! Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Oh I want those cones too! Did it have the pool of hardened chocolate at the base of the cone?

  2. Parchment crackers. An almost square (5 inch x 5 inch) box, brown and off white…musical notes…find it.

  3. I love the mini cones! They’re cute and tasty. Over the weekend they were doing samples of Very Cherry Plums that are tiny little plums with the taste of cherry and plum together – really good! I don’t know if these are new, but I had never seen them before.

    • ooh i havent tried those, i need to check them out! i’ve found lots of really cool fruit at TJ before that I’ve never heard of

  4. Those small cones are perfect as a snack for me; they are re-stocked in the freezer regularly.  So is the 1/2 gallon of organic cream top milk and the eggplant hummus, par baked ciabattas and some sort of lunch meant(the rosemary ham and rosy pork slices are my favorite, but the new-ish 6 oz pack of Danielle, Inc ‘Gourmet Deli Selection’ of meats (Calabrese salami, Del Duca Proscuitto and Capocollo)has shown up lately).  One newer item, the raw & fermented sauerkraut wither Persian cucumbers is very good.

    • oh my, now I need to make another trip asap to try out some of these items! i dont know how i missed the eggplant hummus as I was in that section looking at the edamame hummus. thanks for the tips!

  5. The mini icecream cones are so cute and perfect!

  6. I’ve tried those cones too but I’m always afraid I’ll eat the whole box, haha.

  7. I will need to try that spinach/kale dip! I love the regular spinach dip but had to quit buying it since it was so unhealthy
