Pumpkin Milkshake

A cold and creamy pumpkin milkshake tastes like pumpkin pie but served as a milkshake instead. All you need is three ingredients for the shake and then add your favorite toppings like whipped cream, crushed cookies, or caramel sauce for a fun fall dessert.

When I mentioned to DH that I was about to start pumpkin baking, he got really excited. So I asked him what he was most interested in me making first. Fluffy pumpkin cookies? Our favorite pumpkin bread? Nope. None of the above. Instead, he replied with “Pumpkin Milkshake.”

I guess it made sense, considering it was more than 90 degrees this past weekend. So I made pumpkin shakes. And it was quite tasty. These were the perfect afternoon drink during last Sunday’s hot temperatures.

I should have called them pumpkin pie milkshakes because they taste like a cold and creamy pumpkin pie filling. You could even sprinkle some crushed graham crackers over the top so you get the crust flavor, too.

I decided to keep the milkshakes simple and topped them with some homemade whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Pumpkin pie spice

Recipe Instructions

Blend: Place the ice cream, pumpkin, and spices in a blender. Process until smooth and then pour the shake into glasses for serving.

Garnish Ideas

You can serve it plain, or try some of these topping ideas:

  • Add some whipped cream with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice over the top for garnish or you could use cinnamon, nutmeg, or a little cocoa powder.
  • I mentioned the graham cracker crumbs, but crushed vanilla wafers would also be good.
  • Add a drizzle of caramel sauce.

This is the perfect fall dessert when it still feels like summer. I always start craving pumpkin this time of year, but when it’s still hot outside the last thing I want to do is turn on the oven. These pumpkin milkshakes definitely satisfy the craving.

I think this pumpkin milkshake recipe would be a fun and different treat for Thanksgiving, too. It’s like a slice of pumpkin pie served up as a milkshake instead.
