Homemade Baileys Irish Cream is easy to make, perfect for cocktails, coffee, and desserts.
March is just around the corner and I love making Baileys Irish Cream flavored desserts for St. Patrick’s Day. The problem is, I go through a lot of Baileys when I do my multiple recipe trials. So this year, I decided to make homemade Baileys Irish Cream. It’s super easy, especially if you already have all the ingredients.
The instructions are really easy for this Irish cream recipe. All you need to do is blend a handful of ingredients and you’re set!
Ingredients
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Heavy cream or heavy whipping cream
- Irish whiskey
- Chocolate syrup
- Pure vanilla extract
- Instant coffee granules
Homemade Baileys Recipe
Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend at the lowest speed for about 15 to 25 seconds or until everything is mixed.
At this point, taste the mixture and make adjustments if needed. You may want more whiskey or add more coffee or enhance the creaminess with more cream.
Serve the drink in glasses or you can store it in glass bottles in the fridge. I always note the expiration date on the container of cream so I know when the Irish cream will expire. It will keep as long as the cream lasts, which can be several weeks depending on how old the cream is.
Recipes to Use It In
It’s delicious served as a drink on its own, but it’s also great to add some to hot chocolate or used as a boozy creamer for a cup of coffee. I also love to use this homemade Irish cream liqueur in other kinds of recipes. Here are a few you might like to try:
- Baileys Milkshake
- Flourless Irish Cream Chocolate Mug Cake
- Baileys Bundt Cake
- Baileys Coffee Donuts
- Irish Cream Cookies
Recipe Tips
For a more intense coffee flavor, you can substitute the instant coffee granules for instant espresso powder.
For the whiskey, Jameson is a popular brand or you can check out the other options for Irish Whiskey at the liquor store.
I’ve seen other recipes with cocoa powder, but I think chocolate syrup works better. The powder can make your drink a little grainy.
Make sure you don’t blend at high speed. This can cause the drink to separate because the cream is whipped too much and starts turning into whipped cream. Blend at low speed for the best result.
If you don’t have a blender, you can whisk the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
After making this easy recipe, I thought it would make great homemade gifts for friends and family. I may add it to my Christmas gifts ideas list for next year. Until then, I’m ready to pour myself a big, tall glass of this homemade Irish cream.

Homemade Baileys Irish Cream
Ingredients
- 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whiskey
- 2 tbsp chocolate syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp instant coffee
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend on lowest speed until everything is thoroughly mixed about 15-25 seconds. (If you don't have a blender, you could also just combine all the ingredients into a large bowl and whisk until combined.) Make sure you don't blend on high speed. If you do, you could end up with it curdling or thickening too much (basically your blender is whipping the heavy cream and it's becoming whipped cream).
- You can taste and adjust levels to your liking. Several recipes I came across used a lot more whiskey, but I found 1 cup to be sufficient. Pour into glass bottles and store in the fridge for several weeks (or until your heavy cream expires).

Absolutely awesome recipe. Thank you. I love it.
So glad you loved it!
If you were to decrease the whiskey to 2 tablespoons, overwhip the mixture to a froth, and freeze it, you would would end up with a fabulous no churn ice cream (see Nigella Lawson’s recipe). Looks delicious. Nice blog.
