Krispy Krunchy Chicken is one of the food vendors located in the new 99 Ranch Market on Balboa Avenue. This particular location serves the franchise’s Louisiana-style menu but also offers a separate Japanese menu. I’m not quite sure what to make of the Japanese menu, but the fried chicken definitely caught my attention.
We decided to get an 8-piece order of their cajun-style Krispy chicken and a few of their honey glazed biscuits.
It’s hard not to draw comparisons with Popeyes when eating here as they offer a very similar menu. I enjoyed the chicken. Even though it isn’t made to order, the skin had a thick and crunchy coating and the meat inside was still moist and juicy.
When you bite into the chicken, you can see small spots where the chicken was injected with the spicy oil to give it that spicy cajun kick, but I actually wish they had injected a little more as I found the spicy level to be quite mild. I did find the chicken on the salty side, but I think that is usually the case for most fast food fried chicken. It’s been a while since I had Popeyes, but I think I enjoyed the chicken here a little more.
I had been drawn to their biscuits in the display case, which are drizzled with a shiny honey butter glaze.
Mr. K enjoyed the biscuits more than I did. I liked the crispy edges but found the biscuit itself to be too dense.
Overall, we had a decent experience here. If you’re in the area and craving fast food fried chicken, it is a pretty good option.

I tried some of their chicken while in Palm Springs where I found it offered in a restaurant that oddly enough also sold Filipino food and Philly Cheesesteaks. At that location, the chicken was cooked to order even at lunch time, and my wait was over thirty minutes. I wasn’t particularly thrilled with the excessive wait time, but at least the chicken was quite tasty and juicy. I’ll have to give this San Diego location a try as well.
that’s interesting that it was cooked to order! this location seems to be doing the fast food route, but I still found the chicken to be quite juicy
I like the look of those honey biscuits!I didn’t get a chance to check out their menu but I do want to try their fried chicken. Your post and Jinxi’s are my previews. 🙂
I hope you get to try soon!
