Pop Pie Co.

photo of the outside of Pop Pie Co.Pop Pie Co. softly opened last week and the response has been overwhelming. They announced on their Instagram account that they will be closed this Monday so that they can re-stock and get ready for their grand opening on October 8th. The new eatery serves sweet and savory pies and has a full coffee bar.

Over the weekend, we visited the restaurant twice because they were completely out of savory pies on our first visit.

The restaurant has plenty of communal seating, with fun decorations throughout. They are currently serving several 5-inch savory pies and 3 inch sweet pies.

The 5-inch savory pies are priced around $8 and come in these cute pie boxes. We ordered steak & ale and jackfruit.

Jackfruit
Jackfruit
I usually don’t choose the vegetarian option, but I was very curious. I’ve eaten jackfruit before but never in a savory dish. close-up photo of JackfruitUpon first glance, the jackfruit did seem to resemble strips of chicken. I really enjoyed the flavors of the herb sauce, but I did find myself wishing I had ordered chicken instead as the jackfruit texture didn’t quite replace the texture or flavor of meat. But it is good to see a vegetarian option available.

Steak & Ale
Steak & Ale
I often find pot pie fillings to be too salty, but the ones here are not. The beef was tender, with prominent notes of ale. We both enjoyed this one a lot.

Curry Ginger Latte

There’s been a trend of new restaurants opening with full coffee bars, but many times I feel that the coffee bars don’t quite have the same quality and feel as dedicated coffee shops and I find myself choosing to visit my favorite coffee spot after rather than getting coffee at the restaurant. However, I was quite impressed with the coffee bar at Pop Pie Co. There are several experienced baristas and they offer a large coffee menu with unique offerings like this curry ginger latte. We loved the latte art and the ginger and curry flavors worked really well together.

They also offer several 3-inch sweet pies priced at $3.95 each. The matcha pastry cream filling was light and not overly sweet, with crunchy pistachios on top.  There was also a little dollop of chocolate ganache in the center of the pie filling. Because the pie filling wasn’t too sweet, you could really taste the buttery crust, which was my favorite part of the pie. I would love to be able to just order giant buttery pie crusts from them.

Salted Caramel Chocolate Fudge

This pie was rich, fudgy, and chocolatey, with salted caramel drizzled over a salted caramel frosting. I enjoyed this one as well, but because of the strong chocolate flavor, I couldn’t taste the crust as well compared to the matcha.

Overall, we had a nice experience on our first two visits. The staff was very friendly and the space is perfect for a casual meal. We’re looking forward to trying more pies when they have their grand opening and also trying out some more of their coffee drinks.

  1. Your sweet pies looked so good. My matcha one shifted in my car so it wasn’t quite as pretty.  I loved the crust on the savory pies as well, very flaky and buttery.

Re: Coffee bars in restaurants, I noticed that trend as well, but I would rather go to a coffee place that serves only coffee (has a super concise menu) and maybe a pastry or two but that’s it.

I’ll have to come back to try that other sweet pie you had, plus their specialty drinks.

    • I agree regarding coffee places. This one is probably the first exception where I’m really excited to explore their coffee menu

  2. Those pies look like they have a nice crunchy crust. 🙂
