A creamy chocolate fudge that is healthier than traditional fudge. This fudge only needs 2 ingredients and is so easy to make. It is an easy snack or dessert that contains a surprising healthy ingredient.
This is such an easy fudge to make. And unlike other easy fudge recipes, this one isn’t made with butter, condensed milk, frosting or peanut butter. Instead, it is made with yogurt.
Ingredients
- Dark chocolate chips
- Plain Greek yogurt
Dark chocolate chips: To make this fudge healthier, it is made with dark chocolate chips. Make sure to use a chocolate that contains at least 60% cocoa. If you use a chocolate with less than that, then the fudge will not fully firm up.
Plain Greek yogurt: I used nonfat plain Greek yogurt but you should be able to make it with lowfat or whole milk Greek yogurt as well. Make sure the Greek yogurt brand you choose has a very thick consistency.
How to Make Healthier Fudge
The chocolate chips are first melted down until smooth. While the chocolate is still hot, mix in the yogurt until no yogurt streaks remain and the mixture is uniform in color.
The mixture is then poured into a lined loaf pan and place into the fridge until the fudge is set.
Use a sharp knife to cut the fudge into squares. Store uneaten fudge in the fridge or freezer.
Fudge Texture and Sweetness
This fudge has a very creamy texture. It is slightly more crumbly than regular fudge but it won’t taste dry. The fudge is only lightly sweetened with a strong dark chocolate flavor and a slight tangy finish. It is not meant to be very sweet. If you want the fudge to be sweeter, I did try making this with semisweet chocolate but the fudge doesn’t fully firm up. It will have a soft consistency similar to caramel chews.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups (237 g) dark chocolate chips, 60% cocoa or higher see note before starting
- 3/4 cup (183 g) nonfat plain Greek yogurt
Instructions
- Line an 8 inch x 4 inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Add chocolate chips to a large microwave safe mixing bowl. Heat in 15-30 second intervals, stirring in between with a spatula until chocolate is completely melted and smooth. You can also melt the chocolate on the stove using the double boiler method. Make sure your melted chocolate is hot. If it has cooled, then when you add the yogurt, it will cause the chocolate to harden immediately which you don't want.
- Add in the yogurt and working quickly, stir with a spatula until the yogurt is fully and evenly incorporated. Your mixture should be uniform in color and no yogurt streaks should remain.
- Pour mixture into your prepared loaf pan. Use your spatula to smooth and even the surface.
- Place fudge into the fridge to firm up. When fudge is set, cut into small pieces with a sharp knife.
Notes
- Dark chocolate: This recipe works best with dark chocolate that contains at least 60% cocoa. There are some dark chocolate brands that contain less than 60% and the fudge won't fully set if it is less than 60%. You likely also don't want a chocolate with 70% or higher because your fudge won't be sweet enough. I also recommend using a dark chocolate that contains milkfat or soy. Brands that don't contain any milk or similar milk substitute (such as Enjoy Life) don't work as well for this recipe. Without the milk or milk substitute, the chocolate is not as creamy and will immediately seize when the yogurt is mixed in. Here are the chocolate brands I tested this with:
- Ghiradelli dark 60%, Amazon Fresh bittersweet 62% both worked well
- Nestle dark 53% cocoa did not full set. The texture was like caramel chews. Nestle semisweet also did not fully firm up.
- Enjoy Life dark chocolate, the chocolate firms up too fast. You don't need to wait for refrigeration but you also can't pour it into a pan and smooth it out to cut into squares. If you want instant fudge that doesn't look pretty than this does work. However I also found that this one wasn't sweet enough for me since Enjoy Life dark chocolate isn't very sweet to begin with.
- This fudge has a slightly crumbly texture but it doesn't taste crumbly. It tastes very soft and creamy. The fudge is only lightly sweetened. If you prefer sweeter fudge you could make this with semisweet chocolate but just know that your fudge won't fully firm up and will be like caramel chews.
- Make sure to use a thick Greek yogurt. I used Kirkland brand.
- I let the fudge come to room temperature and then cut with a sharp knife. I also ran the knife back up and down the edges of some of the squares to help smooth the surface.

Would adding pecans be OK?
We haven’t tried that with this recipe! Let us know how it turns out if you do!
I made this recipe today and I really enjoyed the 2 ingredients and the fudge came out nice and smooth and creamy
We’re so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
I’ve made this twice and the second time was much better. I tried Hershey Special Dark chips and the first fudge was pretty soft. The second time I added 2 squares of unsweetened baking chocolate and a few tablespoons of peanut butter. I garnished with some pretzel chunks and we are thoroughly enjoying this version. I will definitely make this again with other garnishes.
I’m glad you got the recipe to work with you! The reason the fudge was too soft the first time is because of the Hershey special dark chocolate. It only contains 45% cacao which isn’t enough. As I state in the recipe, this recipe works best with 60%. This is also why it worked better the second time since you added the unsweetened chocolate which increased the overall cacao amount in the fudge.
This was yummy! It had a little bit of tang from the yogurt and I ended up using semi sweet chocolate.
We’re so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
I would recommend to everyone to keep the percentage of dark chocolate exactly as written in the recipe. I made two different ones one at 85 with a little bit of maple syrup for more sweetness, but the original recipe is best.
We’re glad you enjoyed the original recipe!
Do you have any thoughts on adding 1/8 or 1/4 tsp xanthan gum when using semi-sweet chocolate chips? I thought it might help make the fudge firm when using semi-sweet chocolate chips
Hi Matt! We have not tested this recipe with xanthan gum so we are unsure how it would change the recipe!
Can’t wait to make
Thanks Debbie! Let us know how you like it!
Tried this with Ghirardelli 60 % cacao chocolate chips. It’s wonderful!
Yum! We’re so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
Would this work with homemade coconut yogurt?
We have not tested this recipe with coconut yogurt! This recipe does work best with a very thick consistency yogurt.
Hi, do you think adding some chocolate protein powder to the mix would impact the final product too much or should it be fine either way?
Thanks for the recipe!
Hello! We have not tested this recipe with protein powder but it may change the texture or how the fudge sets!
