Gravity Heights recently opened in Sorrento Mesa. The highly anticipated beerpub is a collaboration between Whisknladle Hospitality (Whisknladle, Catania) and brewmaster Skip Virgilio (co-founder of Alesmith Brewing Company).
Occupying 12,000 square feet of space, there is plenty of indoor seating, patio seating, covered outdoor seating and a beer garden.
I recently had brunch with my friend CC. While there are many good breweries in San Diego, I was particularly excited to try out Gravity Heights because of the promise of good food paired with good beer. I’ve always been a fan of Whisknladle Hospitality’s other restaurants and their approach to food and service.
We arrived early and chose to sit in the covered outdoor space. While the restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived, it was completely full when we left.
As soon as we were seated we were greeted by our very friendly and attentive server. The menu is meant for sharing and we chose a few things to get a good sampling of the menu. Since we were both driving, we did not order any beers–I’ll have to come back to try the beers next time.
DUCK LIVER “BANH MI” CROSTINI
roasted pork belly, red onion, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeño mint, basil
This was one of my favorite things we ordered. It was so packed with flavor from the duck liver, pork belly, pickled carrots and more. It almost didn’t even need the pork belly, as I thought it got a little lost with so many flavors and ingredients. The toast was quite rich but I really enjoyed it and would order it again.
APPLE SALAD (V/GF)
mixed greens, fennel, walnuts, white cheddar, apple celery vinaigrette
I was glad CC suggested this salad because it was so light and refreshing after the rich duck liver crostini. I really loved the combination of fresh apples with cheddar cheese.
PEAR AND PANCETTA PIZZA
blue cheese, pecorino, garlic, balsamic, honey, rosemary
We were able to substitute the blue cheese with whipped burrata. I enjoyed the crust which was crispy, chewy and dusted with parmesan cheese. I also loved the crispy pancetta.
MASTIFF SAUSAGE CO. PLATTER
fried peppers, roasted onions, mustards
The selection for the sausage platter changes daily, with the sausage supplied by Mastiff Sausage Co. We had a bratwurst, andouille and hot dog. I think this platter would be great with some beers.
STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE SEMIFREDDO
fresh strawberries, strawberry jam, whip cream, shortbread crumble
The dessert came out so pink and lovely. It wasn’t overly sweet and was the perfect ending to our meal. I especially enjoyed the macerated strawberries.
Overall, I had a really good time here. The service was excellent and the food was good. I love how much dining space there is and I’m eager to come back to check out more food and beer.
Tip: They take reservations via opentable.

So true about the sausage platter Lynn!
That was a pretty good meal! The crostini was so rich. My favorite was the pizza and the salad ( I may have to recreate that at home). Thanks for suggesting this place. I’ll have to return with my husband so we can try their beers (they have a flight I am curious about).
I want to try a flight too!
CC told me she was quite curious after reading about my three visits here. Glad you guys had a good meal too! I’ll link my review for reference (hope you don’t mind) =)
