Every month Foodbuzz hosts a “24 x 24” event. Basically 24 foodbuzz bloggers are chosen across the globe to host a meal, and all the meals take place within the same 24 hours.
For this month’s Foodbuzz 24 x 24 event, I was lucky enough to have my proposal chosen. My proposal was to host a “No Bake Dessert Party.”
The summer heat makes everyone hot and lazy, even the dogs.
Most people are reluctant to turn on their ovens and stoves, as it further adds to the heat. No oven= no baking. And for some, this may mean foregoing desserts.
But I love my desserts and I can’t imagine going through a day without a sweet. So I decided to host a No Bake Dessert Party for some of my friends, introducing them to several dessert ideas that they can create without turning on the oven or the stove.
My rules were simple but firm:
1) No turning on the oven.
2) No turning on the stove top.
Everything else: food processor, microwave, stand mixer, etc were fair game since they don’t heat up the house if you are using them.
We started out with something nice and cold: Ice Cream!
I used my ice cream maker to whip up some green tea ice cream that is not only creamy, cold and delicious, but can also be considered healthy since it contains a good dose of matcha green tea powder.
Our next course were these no bake oreo cookie bars. Similar to rice krispies treats, you mix crushed oreos with melted marshmallows and butter, which creates a chewy cookies and cream dessert.
Next up was some chocolate mousse. To make things a bit healthier since I was featuring so many desserts, I made this mousse with silken tofu. The mousse is thick, creamy, and very chocolatey. You don’t taste the tofu at all and it works as a great stablizer. I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of this before my guests arrived as it was still firming up in the fridge. So this picture is actually from an old post when I first made this.
Next up was a no-bake oreo cheesecake.
This was my first time trying a no-bake cheesecake and I was thrilled with the result. It was just as good as the baked kind in my opinion.
As the sunset and the night grew cooler, we indulged on some nutella cup cakes. Basically the nutella cake is cooked in the microwave, inside these cups. I’ve made these before as mug cakes. For this occasion, I reduced the amount to fit these coffee cups for a more elegant presentation.
For the final dessert of the night, everyone received a mochi filled with a fresh strawberry and some chocolate ganache. The mochi was made in the microwave as was the chocolate ganache. I also gave everyone recipe cards with all the recipes from the night so that they can make the desserts too.
I thought the dessert party was quite successful and I had lots of fun. Unfortunately, I woke up the next morning and I had lost my voice…Hopefully it will come back soon. Thank you Foodbuzz for giving me the opportunity to host this party.
Here are links to some of the recipes I used:
I will post a recipe for the microwave mochi at a later time.
Hello! I just found your blog today and I’ve been reading through all your posts; your blog is amazingly addictive! 🙂
I was wondering if you ever got around to posting the microwave mochi recipe? I’d love to try it out!
Thank you. 🙂
Hi, I’m so glad you enjoy my blog. I love finding a new one and then reading all the posts! I never did getaround to posting the recipe, but it’s basiclly this one, but without the matcha powder, and filled with strawberries for the filling. https://kirbiecravings.com/2010/05/green-tea-mochi-with-chocolate-filling.html
Hope this helps!
this is awesome! this is also great for those who live in countries where ovens are not that common
Oh I didn’t even think about that, but you are so right!
Looks like you had a great time! That green tea ice cream sounds great on a hot day like this. Your pups are super cute!
Aw thanks. I think any flavor of ice cream is good on a hot day. I love ice cream!
Great no-bake dessert ideas! Especially love the ice cream, cheesecake and mousse. Recently discovered that the no-bake cheesecake filling is great as a cream cheese frosting. The typical cream cheese frosting of butter, cream cheese, vanilla and powdered sugar type is just too moist and thin to frost cakes well, but the fluffy no-bake cheesecake type is perfect!
Oh interesting. I’ve never been fond of cream cheese frosting, but I love the cheesecake so I think I’ll try that as a frosting next time!
