3 Ingredient Apple Chocolate Chip Cookies (No Flour, Eggs, Butter or Oil)

These apple chocolate chip cookies are just 3 ingredients and easy to make. They are soft and chewy and studded with chocolate chips. The cookies also don’t require any flour, eggs, butter or oil. They can be made ahead of time for a quick snack or dessert.

I’ve been eating a lot of apples lately and it’s inspired me to make several apple-flavored desserts. These apple cookies make a great snack or dessert. I love how easy they are to make and that they are healthier than your typical cookie.

Ingredients

  • Applesauce
  • Quick Oats
  • Chocolate Chips

Applesauce: You can use unsweetened or sweetened applesauce. I used unsweetened since the cookies already have chocolate chips to give them sweetness.

Quick Oats: Quick oats give the cookies a chewy texture. Quick oats work better than rolled oats because they will soften and cook faster. If you don’t like chewy cookies, I’ve also made these cookies with oat flour which will produce softer biscuit-like cookies.

Chocolate Chips: I used milk chocolate chips. You can also use semisweet chocolate chips or white chocolate chips.

How to Make Apple Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Mix the applesauce and quick oats together until the oats are fully incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • The cookies are then ready to be scooped onto a baking sheet.
  • Once they are on the baking sheet, you’ll want to flatten the cookie balls because they don’t spread much during baking.
  • The cookies take about 15 minutes to bake. Let them cool and then they are ready to eat.

Apple Cookie Texture and Sweetness

These cookies are chewy, soft and lightly flavored with applesauce. They are not super sweet but you can increase the level of sweetness by using sweetened applesauce or adding more chocolate chips (and using white or milk chocolate chips instead of semisweet). You can also increase the apple flavor by adding some small pieces of fresh or dried apple as mix-ins in addition or in place of the chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz (113 g) unsweetened applesauce can also use sweetened
  • 3/4 cup (65 g) quick oats
  • 1/4 cup (40 g) chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Add applesauce and oats to a large bowl. Stir until evenly mixed and all oats are coated in applesauce.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips until they are evenly incorporated.
  • Use a 1.5 tbsp cookie scoop to scoop out cookie dough. Release cookie dough onto prepared baking sheet, spacing the dough balls about 1.5 inches apart. Use the palm of your hand to press down on each cookie dough ball so that it forms a thick round disk. Smooth and reshape edges of cookies to make them round if needed. The cookies will not spread during baking so you want to shape the cookies to how you want the final product to be. If desired, add a few additional chocolate chips on top of each cookie. I did this for cookies that looked a little sparse on the chocolate or if the chocolate wasn't as visible on top.
  • Bake cookies for about 13-15 minutes. Let cookies cool on baking sheet before removing and eating. When cookies are cooled, they should come off the baking sheet easily.

Notes

  • You can use homemade or store bought applesauce. I used store bought. If you buy the individual snack cups of applesauce, they are usually sold in 4 oz containers and you need one 4 oz container for this recipe.
  • If you don't like the chewy oat texture, I've also made these cookies with oat flour. I used 1 cup of oat flour and increased chocolate chips to 1/3 cup. Bake for about 10 minutes. These cookies will have a more soft biscuit-like texture.
  • These cookies are sweet but not super sweet. See post for ways to increase sweetness or add more apple flavor.
  • I use OXO 1.5 tbsp cookie scoop.*

  1. I wish reseve this recipes tks

  2. unlike other recipes that I have cooked from your website, these cookies did not like the texture.

    • We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy them. Do you not like chewy cookies? If not, you can use oat flour instead of oats to make a softer cookie – please see the ingredients section in the post for more info.

  3. Yummy cookies, quick and easy. I replace a small portion of the oats with almond meal and flexseed meal to make them into lactation cookies/ healthy snacks for my daughter who is nursing her baby boy. ?

  4. Hi, I really was hoping to love these since they are quite easy and relatively healthy. So, I was disappointed when they ending up being so floppy. Any ideas what might have gone wrong for me? Thank you so much for any insight, and I really enjoy your recipes

  5. Looking forward to trying these! I may do butterscotch chips, since one of my childhood favorites was fresh apple slices dipped in butterscotch pudding.

  6. These were very good. They did stick some to the parchment paper, next time will try directly on sprayed cookie sheet or spray the paper.

    • I haven’t had issues with them sticking. I would recommend using a good quality brand parchment paper (like Reynolds) or baking them a little bit longer. But you can also try greasing cookie sheet like you mentioned
