Bang Bang Pasta

This bang bang pasta is ready in about 30 minutes with a no-cook sauce that is addictive and easy to make.

A few weeks ago, I tasted bang bang sauce for the first time and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I’ve already gone through a whole bottle of sweet Thai chili sauce because I’ve made it so many times. I previously made Bang Bang Cauliflower. Now, I’m sharing my Bang Bang Chicken Pasta. The great thing about this is that you can substitute with any protein or choose none at all.

I’m still trying to figure out where bang bang sauce came from. I’ve been researching on the internet and haven’t found anything. All I know is that I really love it and am totally addicted to it right now. (Update: Reader Brittany helpfully told me it is from Bonefish Grill.)

Speaking of addictions, one addiction I’m currently trying to kick is late-night snacking. I can’t seem to stop. It’s not even that I’m hungry. I just feel the urge to snack, especially when I’m watching tv, which is part of my nightly routine. Maybe I should eat all my snacks and not let myself buy any more. But then I’ll probably just be really grumpy, like how I got really mad at Mr. K when I asked him to try to stop me from snacking. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you’ve already tried my bang bang cauliflower, this sauce isn’t quite the same. To make it more suitable for pasta, the bang bang sauce is less sweet and more spicy. It’s a few extra ingredients, but it’s still super delicious. Mr. K actually preferred the pasta version over the dipping sauce.

I tossed the pasta in the sauce first, then spooned some additional sauce on top. I love my pastas to be extra saucy.

Bang Bang Chicken Pasta

Servings: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Course: Main Dishes

Pasta and chicken tossed with spicy bang bang sauce is an easy 30-minute dinner.


  • 8 oz thin spaghetti pasta
  • 1/2 lb boneless chicken breast cubed
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • chopped parsley for garnish

for the sauce:

  • 1/2 cup light mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sriracha sauce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice


  • Lightly grease a saute pan and turn stove to medium high. Add garlic and cook until aroma of the garlic comes out. Add in chicken pieces and cook until chicken is cooked through and slightly browned.
  • In a large pot, add water and bring to a boil. Add pasta and cook until done. Drain out water when pasta is finished.
  • While pasta is cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, make the sauce by combining all ingredients and mixing with a whisk until smooth. You can adjust as needed.
  • Add chicken to pasta. Pour 2/3 of the sauce into the hot pasta and toss. Slightly warm the remaining sauce (in the microwave is fine). Dish out pasta onto plates and add remaining sauce on top. Garnish with parsley if desired.

    • Hi CC, I haven’t tried many diff brands, but I found a cheap one at Ranch 99. There’s a photo of it in the Bang Bang Cauliflower post because there doesn’t seem to be an English name for the brand.

  4. Just plan your snacks like you would a meal. A nutritionist I worked with once told me to make sure my meals consisted of at least three food groups, and my snacks should have at least two food groups. That helps keep you from feeling hungry.

  5. This was delicous. I’ve made bang bang shrimp before – I got a knock off recipe of Bone Fish Grill’s appetizer (which is where I thought it originated from but who knows!) It was delicous as always – however next time in thinking of adding some vegetable – not sure what else would go well with it besides broccoli. I’m also wondering if anyone has tried something else in place of mayo? Maybe Greek yogurt – although not sure what consistency it would hold.

I did the same thing, I asked my boyfriend once to just comment to me to help me realize I shouldn’t be snacking late at night or on a certain food, let’s just say my reactions were less than ideal. It’s hard to break a habit that at first seems to make you so happy. The recipe looks really good by the way, can’t wait to try it tonight, i’m in a pasta mood!

    • I hope you enjoy the pasta! Yes, I feel really bad for how I responded when my husband was just trying to do what I asked of him. But yeah, no snacking makes me grumpy! haha.

  9. Hi! This recipe looks ridiculously good and I plan on making tonight! Though, I do have one question… Would there be any type of substitute for the lime juice? Would freshly-squeezed orange juice work just as well?


  10. This looks amazing and I went and bought the ingredients but wondering about the Thai Chili Sauce. Do I use 1/4 Cup or 2 Tbls? 

  11. I had never tried Bang-Bang sauce until having it at Bonefish a couple of months ago where I declared that I would put that sauce on EVERYTHING!

    We’ve since gone vegan (I haven’t tried the roasted Cauliflower one yet, but will) so seeing a pasta version makes me happy!
    Not sure what I’ll sub for the chicken, but I’ll figure it out!

  12. I have substituted Greek yogurt, and it works fine! My favorite, though, is to use MOSTLY greek yogurt but still use 1-2 tablespoons of low fat mayonaise. It REALLY enriches the texture and flavor without significantly effecting the healthiness!

  13. I had to stop and look at this recipe when I saw the bang bang sauce. Friends who served as missionaries to Africa often spoke of the spicy local “bang bang” seasoning. This sauce looks like something I need to try! Pinned.

  14. Made this last night and it was so delicious! I didn’t have a Thai sweet chili sauce but I used Frank’s sweet chili and it was awesome. I wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe making a smaller batch so I’m not doing the old unbuttoning of the pants to eat more.

  17. I read this & pinned this a couple days ago thinking it looks like a great weeknight meal. Today I was looking to make myself a quick lunch with some leftover shrimp & thought Ramen would be super easy.  Usually I don’t use the flavor (salt) packet & use a little soy or teriyaki to flavor them.  When I was looking in the fridge I saw the sweet chili sauce and remembered this recipe. Since the ramen was cooking, I didn’t have time to go look it up, so I grabbed a small bowl and grabbed things from the pantry from my memory,  eyeballed the amounts and whisked it up.  It was awesome tossed with the Ramen & shrimp!!  After I finished eating I came back and read the recipe but I hit it pretty close. Since I didn’t really measure it’s hard to say but I think I got the portions pretty close.  After I had mixed mayo, sweet chili, sriracha, & Honey, I thought it needed a little acid (I forgot the recipe had lime) & added a little rice vinegar.  I will definitely be trying the real version measured & everything for dinner. Thanks for the great recipe. 

  18. Was looking for a quick chicken pasta dish for dinner. Was thinking about a tomato based recipe, but found this on Pinterest. I had sambal olek (chili paste) in the fridge, so I added some sugar to it. Could have just added more honey after I thought about it. I also added some steamed chopped asparagus to the mix at the last minute so it didn’t get too mushy. Husband loved it! Thanks, I’ll be making this again.

  19. I looked this up because this is what we are having for dinner & saw the last comment.  Sambal olek would be awesome, I have some so I think I will try that instead of the sriracha, don’t think we’ll need any extra sugar, we like hot!  Thanks Nicole for the inspiration. 

  20. I cook for 8 adults in my home and we are split as far as spiciest is concerned.  Is there a way to keep the taste of this sauce without killer spiciest? My family will thank you.

    • I think the best way is to reduce the sriracha sauce. Maybe do half the amount or even less for the people who don’t want it as spicy.

  21. I’m making this tonight! I just noticed in your cauliflower recipe you said make sure to use the Thai chili sauce without the chili seeds… but that’s the one I had already bought for this pasta recipe. I don’t remember seeing one without seeds at our grocery store. Will it be okay?!

  22. Would someone let me know what is meant by Thai sweet chili sauce and a brand that most use? I made this tonight and it was extremely spicy and I’m wondering if I used the wrong kind of chili sauce. Thanks I would really appreciate a response

    • Here is a photo of the one I use:
      The sweet chili sauce should be sweet and barely spicy. You want to make sure it is labeled sweet chili sauce. I’ve seen some out there mixed with hot sauce or sriracha sauce and those would be too spicy. The bang bang sauce does have a little bit of heat, which comes from the sriracha sauce and you can reduce if needed.

    Yum yum sauce, sexy sauce, bang bang sauce…..
    I love this too. We carry it at my walmart in Arkansas. They also carry it in Florida.

  29. A little too sweet for us. Added red pepper flakes some cheddar cheese butter Mexican cheese and tomorrow for left overs I will add cream cheese. Oh and maybe a little bit of peanut butter. We didn’t have honey so I used brown sugar. Mouth is still on fire. 

  30. Can I sub low fat mayo for regular fat mayo?
