I’m so excited that it’s Friday that I’m having a hard time sitting still to write this post!
I’ve been wanting to make an almond flavored mug cake for a while now. I love almond flavored things: almond cookies, almond milk, raw almonds, roasted almonds, chocolate covered almonds, etc.
So I set about making an almond mug cake and then realized I was out of almond butter. But luckily I did still have some chocolate almond butter which I bought from Trader Joe’s.
A couple of ingredients, stir and mix, and then I was treated to this chocolate almond mug cake a few minutes later. I want to try to make a gluten free one with almond flour eventually.
If you don’t have chocolate almond butter, I think regular almond butter will work too.
Chocolate Almond Mug Cake
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp chocolate almond butter spread
- 4 tbsp almond milk
- 4 tbsp all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- optional: a few whole or sliced unsalted or raw almonds for garnish
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients except whole almonds in a mug and stir with a small whisk until batter is smooth. Place almonds on top if using. Microwave for about 1 minute. Top of cake should look done. Let cool before eating.

Wow lucky me! I have chocolate almond butter on hand! Kirbie, I tried the traders joes version, but I would have to recommend to you the justins nut butters version. It’s available at safeway.
