Dolce Italian Ice recently opened, just in time for the warmer weather. In addition to carrying a variety of Italian ice flavors, they also offer frozen custard, and some specialty creations.
They let you sample the flavors before making your decision. I was drawn to the D-Lites creations, which looked so pretty.
Twisted Tiramisu
Vanilla custard, mokaccino ice, cocoa powder, lady fingers. I like how the ice is layered with custard, making for a creamier treat. I enjoyed the flavor of the mokaccino ice, though found the vanilla custard icier than I would have liked. It did remind me of tiramisu, especially with the coffee flavored ice, cocoa powder, and lady fingers.
S’mores
Chocolate custard, chocolate ice, marshmallows, graham crackers. This one came out so pretty! I don’t generally like chocolate ice cream, so I preferred the tiramisu one, but I still wanted to give this one a try. I think people who like chocolate ice cream would probably enjoy this one as the chocolate custard and ice both had a strong chocolate flavor.
Overall, this is nice new addition to the Pacific Beach area and I can see it becoming quite popular this summer. We’ve eaten a lot of Italian ice, but haven’t seen shops offer such pretty creations. I personally prefer the texture and taste of Rita’s ice, but if you’re in the area or looking for something a little different, this is a good spot to try.
