Extraordinary Desserts

Extraordinary Desserts is one of those places we often frequent when we have out of town guests visiting. It’s a little on the expensive side but the dessert displays are gorgeous and there’s such a large variety of offerings that there is a little bit something for everyone.

We prefer the Little Italy location as it is much bigger and holds more seating. Once inside, you are met with displays of scones, cookies, cakes, etc. They also offer several flavors of homemade ice cream, with flavors that rotate daily.

If it’s too busy, you can also get your desserts to go. Luckily the wait wasn’t too long when we visited, so we were able to get a table. In addition to desserts, they also have quite a big selection of teas too. I love tea time!

Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding

This was my choice on our last visit. It’s probably my favorite dessert here and one that you can only get if you dine in. Bits of chocolate croissant are baked in a custard and syrup and served warm with a side of vanilla ice cream. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory why this would be amazing.

La Bete Noire

Three kinds of chocolate mousse layered into one cake. This used to be one of our favorites, but we actually found it too sweet on this visit. We must be getting old.

Berry Torte

A light white cake, with layers of berries and whipped cream. Next to the bread pudding, this was my next favorite of the night.

Flourless Banana Cream Cake with banana malt ice cream

This was one of the beer inspired desserts designed for San Diego Beer Week. I really enjoyed the ice cream, but didn’t love the cake as much.

It was fun to come back here. I almost always enjoy my visits even though we don’t come often. It’s great for special occasions, dates, and a place to take out of town friends.

  1. The flourless banana cake with banana malt ice cream sounds like a great choice! This must be new or maybe it’s because I haven’t been here in awhile. If you haven’t gone for their Sunday brunch, that’s always nice as well. I like the downtown location since it’s much bigger and brighter in there.

    • I’ve been meaning to try the Sunday brunch but haven’t gotten around to it. The banana cake was only for the San Diego beer week unfortunately. Unless they have a version on the regular menu without the malted ice cream, which they might. I did see a lot of cakes on the SD beer week one which were just beer infused twists on stuff they usually have.

  2. Yum, this place looks great!
