The last few weeks of unusually warm March weather had us craving shaved ice, so we recently revisited our favorite spot for snow shaved ice in San Diego, Iceskimo.
Because this is a revisit post, it’ll be a little shorter. For a more thorough post on Iceskimo, read my original post here.
On this visit, there were eight flavors of snow ice to choose from. You can choose to build your own, similar to the frozen yogurt shops in town, or you can choose from one of the pre-designed snow ice creations which have some really fun names. Price is by weight of the cups.
One of the new toppings they recently added are “handmade mochi balls” which are basically the Chinese version of mochi. Made of glutinous rice flour, these chewy and subtly sweet rice balls are a very common shaved ice topping in Taiwan and one of my personal favorites, so I’m very excited they chose to add it to the menu.
We usually build our own, but on this visit, we chose to order from the Favorites section.
Coconut Paradise
This is their current special and if you’re a coconut lover, I highly recommend it. It’s my favorite creation of theirs yet. It consists of toasted coconut shaved ice, topped with toasted coconut flakes, coconut jelly and slices of banana. The shaved ice has a super creamy consistency, and the toasted coconut flakes give a wonderful contrasting crunchy texture.
Look at the beautiful ribbon layers!
Cookie Monster
This was our previous favorite, now surpassed by the coconut special, but it’s still pretty darn good. Black sesame shaved snow, strawberries. crushed Oreos, and condensed milk. We added on the handmade mochi balls so we could try them out.
Matcha Comin’ Atcha
Another one of our favorites, this one was ordered by another member of our party. Matcha flavored snow ice, red beans, mini mochi and condensed milk. Again, it doesn’t usually come with the handmade mochi balls but they were added on before the final weigh-in.
Overall, we had another great time here. The store was quite busy during our visit. I’m happy to see it doing well and I imagine things will get even busier once all the new restaurants in the plaza open in the next few months.
Tip #1: They have a stamp card to earn free snow ice.
Tip #2: If you follow them on Facebook, they will post new specials and new deals. They currently are offering double stamp Mondays.

I still have to try this place out – they have a lot of good choices. I’m sure TC would love it here.
I was actually thinking of you when I was writing up my post and how you haven’t yet been here. you need to go!
