Marina Kitchen is located inside The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. We were recently invited to a private dinner event to showcase some of the highlights of the restaurant.

We’ve passed by the restaurant more than a dozen times while attending various conferences at the hotel, but never thought to eat there. I’m really happy we were able to attend this event though because we really enjoyed the food and creativity.

We were seated outside with a beautiful view of the bay.

Amuse

Our night started with an amuse bouche of caviar on toast.

Scallop Ceviche

This dish was beautifully plated. It was light, refreshing, and the thin-sliced scallops were paired with the most interesting cucamelon limes. They taste like cucumbers soaked in lime juice and the entire fruit is edible.

Alaskan Halibut en Papillote

This was a fun dish. The halibut was cooked and served in a special type of parchment paper and then opened in front of us.

Truffle Corn Risotto

This dish contained so many of my favorites, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially liked the crispy duck confit on top.

The steak was perfectly cooked and I was intrigued by the uni sauce that it was served with. I’ve eaten a lot of uni, but never seen it paired with steak this way. It was an unusual combination that worked really well.

For dessert, we were served an almond honey cake. It was simple and sweet way to end the meal.

We are were treated to some beautiful chocolates and a sampling of their award winning Maker’s Mark milkshake. I need to come back sometime to get a full version of it as I really loved the mini ones we were served.

Overall, we had a really nice meal here. I enjoyed all the dishes and the wine pairings too. We definitely plan on coming back, especially if we are at the hotel for an event.

Please note, as discussed above, this was a private media dinner event. All opinions expressed are my own.
