Marion Crêpes, which specializes in Harajuku-style crepes, opened a permanent location inside Mitsuwa Marketplace replacing the former Matcha Love. You may recall, Marion Crepes used to set up for a few weeks every spring inside San Diego Mitsuwa Marketplace.
They offer both sweet and savory crepes. There are many variations to choose from or you can choose your own custom creation.
For each of the crepes, you can get it on a plate or in a paper cone.
Kyoto with Mochi
I was debating between a Nutella crepe and one with more traditional Japanese ingredients. This one is filled with red bean, green tea ice cream, strawberries and mochi.
I was very pleased with how pretty the presentation was. This is basically how they look in Japan based on photos I’ve seen, but most of the time when I get them in the US, the ingredients are buried inside the crepe.
The crepe itself had crispy thin edges and a slightly chewy texture due to the rice flour used in the batter. The inner layers were filled with more strawberries, red bean and mochi. It was a much more generous amount of filling than I’ve had at other places.
Overall, I really enjoyed the crepe here and I’ll definitely be back for a Nutella one and some of the other variations. It’s a great new addition to the marketplace and it was also really fun watching them make the crepes.
