If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I just love buying mochi and manju from Nijiya market. Some of my previous posts can be found here, here and here.
It’s been a while since I paid Nijiya a visit. I’ve tried to stay away. Usually Nijiya is on my list of grocery stops, but I started realizing that instead of buying ingredients to make meals for the week, I spent most of my money at Nijiya buying chips, mochi and other snacks.
So I stayed away as long as possible, but finally caved in this past weekend. While at Nijiya, I of course had to browse their mochi and manju selection. I noticed they were now carrying a new set of manju made at the Hogetsu Bakery.
Here are some individual pictures:
This one is always my favorite design. I love the simple flower, the colors, and the white ball peaking underneath.
This one above actually had a layer of rice flour at the bottom.
This last one reminds of me of a watermelon, though I guess the colors are reversed.
The mochi were purchased at Nijiya:
Nijiya’s location:

However, they come from Hogetsu Bakery, where they are handmade:

I still have not visited Hogetsu. It’s on my list of places to go to though!

yupyup! And although I’ve never gone to the actual bakery, I’ve heard great things about it and how they offer so many more of these cute manju.
AHHHHH that’s so cute :3
Oooh it’s in San Diego huh? I guess I’ll be getting my own soon! 😀
