Trader Joe’s June Edition

Sharing my June haul from Trader Joe’s, including several new products like ube ice cream, everything but the bagel seasoned smoked salmon, rainbow carrots snack and more. I’ve also included some low carb items at the end of the post.

Trader Joe’s Ube Ice Cream

This is one of the items featured in the Fearless Flyer that I was most curious about. Ube is the Filipino word for purple yam. It is often used in Filipino desserts though it has become more well-known these last few years thanks to its natural purple hue which has been very popular across social media.
Most of the ube ice creams I’ve eaten use food coloring and artificial flavors to enhance the purple yam flavor. Trader Joe’s ube ice cream is a light shade of purple using all natural colors. The flavor of the purple yam is mild but detectable. It’s sweet and pleasant. Like all of Trader Joe’s ice creams, the texture is very rich and creamy. I really enjoyed this and would get it again.

Trader Joe’s Organic Carrots of Many Colors

Another one of my favorites from this month. I love rainbow carrots and can never resist getting them from the grocery store, so I was excited to see a dehydrated snack version.
The dehydrated carrots are super crunchy, like chips. I love the colorful mix. They are flavored with just a touch of salt which enhances the mild natural sweetness of the carrots.

Trader Joe’s Patio Potato Chips

What’s unique about these chips is that the bag contains four chip flavors: ketchup, salt & vinegar, dill, and BBQ. The only problem is that because all these chips are in one bag, the flavors get jumbled and mixed. It’s not necessarily a bad thing since the flavor combinations work well together but it does take away from the idea of having a mixed bag of chips.

Trader Joe’s Bloody Mary Salsa

This salsa has quite a kick from the horseradish. It also contains worcestershire sauce, capers, lemon juice, vinegar, all the common ingredients found in the Blood Mary cocktail.
I quite enjoy the punch of flavors in this salsa. I’ve been searching for something a little different and this fits the bill.

Trader Joe’s Green Tea Mochi

This may not appear to be a new item, but Trader Joe’s only recently began selling their mochi ice cream again and it’s being made by a new supplier. Trader Joe’s was one of the first grocery stores I was able to find ice cream mochi at other than Asian markets. I used to get them all the time.
I can’t recall how the old Trader Joe’s ice cream used to taste as its been several years since I’ve had it. This new version seems to have a chewier dough, which I really enjoy.

Trader Joe’s Pink Primavera Pasta Sauce

I had to try this new item because of its bright pink color. The pink comes mainly from beets.
The sauce is thick, creamy, a little sweet from the use of beets and carrots. Mr. K was not a fan of the sauce at all. I don’t mind it but I probably won’t be getting another jar.

Trader Joe’s Rice Crackers Medley

Not a new item but my first time trying this. I love Japanese rice crackers and usually buy them from Japanese markets. I’ve known and seen the Trader Joe’s version for a while but never tried them.
I’m glad I got these. There are quite a few cracker types in this mix that I enjoy.

Low Carb Items from Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s Broccoli Rice

Not a new item, but Trader Joe’s is one of the few grocery stores where I can find pre-cut broccoli rice. I used this for my beef and broccoli rice meal prep recipe and have been also using it for broccoli fried rice lately.

Everything but the Bagel Seasoned Smoked Salmon

This is basically smoked salmon seasoned with their popular Everything but the Bagel Seasoning.
The two definitely go together well and I enjoyed eating this for breakfast. However, this is also something you can recreate on your own with a packet of salmon and a bottle of Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel seasoning.

Trader Joe’s Crispy Crunchy Okra

The okra is super crunchy, perfect for snacking or adding to salads. Flavor-wise, I still prefer the crispy crunchy broccoli florets but these were enjoyable too.
The nutrition provided is for the entire bag but I think it can be split into two servings easily. Please note that the ingredient list includes bran rice oil which may not be recommended for some diets.

That’s all for now! There were a couple of items I wasn’t able to find on this last shopping trip that I need to go back for. As always, let me know if you’ve found any new favorite products you think I should try!

  1. Trader Joe’s Jalapeño sauce is wonderful for dipping or over chicken or in cooking or even added to TJs chicken fried rice with a teaspoon of fish sauce for a really great dish ?

  2. Not a new item but new to me -Dark Chocolate Ganache Cake.  It’s moist, delicious, and has as much icing as cake.  Since icing is my favorite part, I’m in heaven with this cake.  It’s a single layer and I cut into small pieces, leave in the pan, and freeze.  It helps me refrain from eating too much at a time.
