Hash House revisit

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my friends T and M drove down for a visit this weekend. On one trip when they were here, we ate at Hash House for dinner and they really liked it. Ever since then, I’ve been wanting to take them for brunch, since that is what Hash House is really known for.

For those not familiar with Hash House, it’s known for it’s enormous quantities of food as well as some twists on some classic “farm food” dishes. The individual plates are huge, and are typically the type of plates you would use to serve a platter of food to a large group of people.

T ordered the french toast. This was the first time I’ve seen the french toast. Three very thick slices of toast, topped with pecans and plaintains. I know Hash House has huge quantities, but I’m always still constantly amazed by the size of the food. Normally one of those thick slices of toast would fill me up. I can’t imagine finishing three in one sitting.

M ordered one of the hashes; I don’t remember which one.

Boyfriend ordered the wild boar scramble. You could taste the wild boar, which was quite gamey. I liked the crisp green beans and the crispy potatoes.  The watermelon was also really sweet.

I ordered the mango and coconut flapjack, which came with a side of eggs and sausages.  The pancake was so thick, I was only able to eat about a fourth of it.

Everyone left with a ton of leftovers and happy with what they ordered. Previous Hash House visits can be read here, here and here. The only thing bad is that the wait is pretty long on Sunday, since it’s so popular. They also serve brunch on Saturday and they take reservations on Saturday. So if you can, I’d recommend visiting on a Saturday.

  1. Oh man! I miss HHAGG! I moved from San Diego to NY 5 years ago and you just made me miss it so much. I found you on Tastespotting and starting looking though your blog. Love the recipe for the milk bread. I may just have to try it.

  3. Ooh, you should try the brunch sometime if you are ever around and have time. My leftovers always weigh so much!

  4. They take reservations every day except Sunday. So you can have the brunch on Saturdays without waiting. I don’t know if their breakfast is the same on the weekdays. I don’t know if they had a chocolate pancake; I’ve never had that one before. This place is fun to take friends. It’s about the only time I go anymore.

  5. I never got to go to brunch at Hash House but I have done dinner there and it was always good. But oh man, the portions were just tooooooooooooooooooo big! Yay leftovers but WHOA!

  6. I use to love the Hash House but realized I was more in love w/ the portion size/presentation vs the actual taste of the food.
    I always take out of town friends there b/c ppl just love the ginormous portions! It’s hard to beat!
    But I’d have to say I do like the pancakes. Do they still have the chocolate something kind pancake?
    How long was the wait? I heard they take reservations for breakfast now?
