Flaky homemade biscuits with just 3 ingredients! This recipe is so easy to make and is ready in 30 minutes. They are perfect for breakfast or as a side dish for dinner.

I just found my new go-to quickie biscuit recipe. These 3 ingredient biscuits taste just like old-fashioned biscuits. You won’t believe they are just three ingredients.

I came across this recipe while reading this article on Buzzfeed for three ingredient recipes. I’ve tried other easy biscuit recipes before but they didn’t quite taste like regular biscuits. But these do.

These took less than 30 minutes to make, including kneading and baking time. I slightly overcooked mine because I added a honey butter glaze that made the tops brown a little too fast. I brush honey on them before serving. These were amazing warm straight out of the oven!

Ingredients

  • Self-rising flour – this is key for the recipe because self-rising flour already has baking powder and salt. If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own. Whisk two cups all-purpose flour, three teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Then measure out two cups for this recipe.
  • Shortening – The shortening really makes these taste like classic biscuits. It gives them a tender and flaky texture. You can use the same amount of cold butter but your biscuits will have a different flavor.
  • Milk – Whole milk gives the biscuits a lot of flavor but you can also use 2% milk.

How to Make Them

Preheat oven to 500°F and grease a baking sheet.

Place the flour in a large mixing bowl and cut in the shortening with a pastry cutter until it’s mixed into the flour. Add the milk a little bit at a time, mixing while you go, until the dough forms.

Place the biscuit dough on a floured surface and knead it a few times. Use a rolling pin to roll it out 1/2″ thick. Use a lightly floured biscuit cutter to cut out rounds. You can also use the rim of a glass if you don’t have a cutter.

Place the dough rounds on a prepared baking sheet and bake the biscuits for 8 to 10 minutes at 500°F or until they are golden brown.

I think they’re best served warm from the oven but they will keep in an airtight container for a few days.

Different Ways to Serve Them

  • You can serve these for breakfast with sausage gravy or make my sheet pan bacon and eggs to go with them. They’re great all on their own, too, with just a pat of butter and some honey or jam.
  • Or use them to make breakfast sandwiches with egg, ham, and cheese.
  • You can also serve them with your favorite soups and stews. Try them with chicken noodle soup or a beef stew.
  • Or, pair them with any main dish you would serve with dinner rolls!
