Crunchy chicken bites are an irresistible chicken appetizer or snack. The chicken coating is made with crushed pretzel pieces and baked until crunchy. These chicken bites are great for parties or as a game-day snack. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauces and watch them disappear.

If you want an easy chicken appetizer for your next party or game-day get-together you have to try these crunchy chicken bites. Not only are they super simple to make – crush the pretzels, coat the chicken pieces, bake, and you’re done – but they’re one of those snacks that people just can’t get enough of.

We love crunchy coated chicken like Crunchy Honey Lemon Chicken, Crunchy Baked Parmesan Chicken Bites, and Salt and Pepper Popcorn Chicken. There’s just something so addicting about it and so it was time to try a new version.

Do you like honey mustard sauce? I tried it for the first time in college and didn’t understand all the fuss. Then at some point, it grew on me, and now I love anything honey mustard–especially honey mustard pretzels.

So, I thought why not coat the chicken in crushed honey mustard pretzels? Because the pretzels are already seasoned and flavored with honey mustard you don’t need a bunch of other ingredients to make the coating.

The hardest part was saving enough pretzel pieces to make the chicken.

How to Make Crunchy Chicken Bites

You only need three ingredients to make these chicken bites:

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Extra-large egg
  • Crushed honey mustard pretzels

Whisk the egg in a bowl. Place the crushed pretzels in a separate bowl.

Dip each piece of chicken in the egg and then roll them in the crushed pretzels. Place the chicken on a baking sheet.

Bake the chicken bites for 15 to 20 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and the coating is golden brown. Serve with honey mustard, or other sauce, for dipping.

How do I crush the pretzels?

The easiest way to crush pretzels is in a food processor. Just drop them in, secure the lid, and pulse a few times until the pretzels break down. If you don’t have a food processor, you can place the pretzels in a resealable bag, close the bag, and then pound on them with a rolling pin or heavy skillet until they are broken down.

Can I use other flavored pretzels?

Yes, you can use whatever flavor of pretzels you like. I happen to love honey mustard pretzels, but any savory flavor you like will work well. If you use plain pretzels you might want to add some additional dried spices to add more flavor.

What kind of dipping sauce goes with chicken bites?

I love honey mustard, but other types of mustards will work, too. Or, if you use a different kind of pretzel coating to make your chicken bites you can experiment with other dipping sauces like ranch, BBQ sauce, or nacho cheese sauce.

  1. Do you have a special recipe for the honey mustard sauce that accompanies this recipe?

    • I don’t. You can use your favorite store bought one or when I don’t have any on hand, I just whisk together some honey with dijon mustard.

  2. What is honey mustard sauce? Is it honey mustard that you buy? So many recipes call for sauces then don’t include the recipes for the sauce.

    • I didn’t include a recipe for the sauce because the sauce can be any sauce you wish. You don’t even need to use honey mustard dipping sauce if you don’t want to. I usually use store bought or if I don’t have any in my pantry, I just mix some dijon mustard with honey to create my own.

  3. Do you measure the pretzels before or after they are crushed?

  4. i am definitely craving one of these chicken bites right now! they look amazing and so crispy delicious…

  5. These look delicious and fun! I just may have to try an allergy friendly version of these!

  6. This looks good, but does the pretzel coating get stay crunchy or get soggy?

    • crunchy! which is why I describe it as crunchy in the description. 😉 since the pretzel pieces are baked, they maintain their crunchiness.

  7. The perfect back to school treat for my boys (and me!), love these!
