Urbane Cafe is a chain in California offering gourmet sandwiches and salads. They recently opened a new location in Mira Mesa a few months ago.

The restaurant space is fairly small, but there is a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu consists of sandwiches made with their fire-baked focaccia bread, salads, and some warm, fresh baked goods.

Fall Sandwich

Since it is Fall, I chose this colorful, Fall-themed sandwich. Roasted rosemary chicken, heirloom carrots, julienned apples, beets, cranberry chutney aioli, mozzarella cheese and arugula on fresh baked focaccia bread. All sandwiches come with a side salad as well.

There was a good balance of ingredients and the bread tasted soft and freshly baked. It was a solid sandwich, but it didn’t really get me excited. I also felt the thin focaccia bread made the sandwich feel less filling.

“New” BBQ Tri Tip

This was Mr. K’s choice. Marinated BBQ Tri Tip Steak, Pepper Jack Cheese, Housemade Apple Coleslaw, Chipotle Aioli. We both really enjoyed the flavor of the marinated tri tip. Again, it was a good balance of ingredients but we didn’t feel very full after finishing our sandwiches.

Overall, I can see this being a nice option for those working near the area, but it’s not somewhere I’d seek out normally. The sandwiches were good, but didn’t really stand out for me.
