I hope everyone is having a great weekend. It’s been a really busy month for us, so I’m only getting around to sharing my favorite bites from June now. Here they are:
Nutella Bombolone at Monello (San Diego, California)
This Italian-style donut filled with Nutella was fresh, warm, fluffy and everything a good donut should be. We really enjoyed our relaxing brunch at Monello and this donut was definitely a highlight. Full post here.
Citrus Cured Salmon at Pardon My French (San Diego, California)
We recently had a tasting menu during a private event held at Pardon My French. During the dinner, we ate many delicious courses, but the one that stood out most for me was the citrus cured salmon. The bright citrus notes gave this salmon such a light and refreshing feel. I also loved the vibrant red edges of the salmon, produced naturally with the help of a little beet juice.
Chocolate Cookie Bread at 85°C Bakery (San Diego, California)
This chocolate bread is covered in chocolate cookie crumbles that taste like crushed Oreos. Like most breads at 85C, this one is incredibly soft and fluffy and the cookie crust just makes it even better. Full post here.
Grilled Octopus Tostada at Galaxy Taco (San Diego, California)
One of my favorite meals in June was one I didn’t bring my camera to and I’m definitely regretting not being able to take better photos of the meal. We previously visited Galaxy Taco shortly after they opened. It had been a pleasant meal but not necessarily the most memorable. At the time, they hadn’t really fully settled in yet and many of the dinner entrees were not yet on the menu. A few good friends of ours love Galaxy Taco so when they suggested it for dinner we were definitely game. We ended up leaving much more impressed from our second visit.
The grilled octopus tostada was particularly memorable. Loaded with octopus, salsa, bean puree, tomatoes and topped with slices of avocado– this is a great choice if you love octopus.
Churros from Galaxy Taco (San Diego, California)
The other dish I can’t stop thinking about from our meal were the churros. These were some of the best churros I’ve ever eaten. Yes, they are just churros but they were very well made churros. I need to revisit here soon even if it’s just for the churros.
Plus, the restaurant has this beautiful view just steps from the ocean.
That’s it for now. Hope everyone has a delicious weekend!
