Mochinut

Mochinut is a chain that specializes in making mochi donuts. They have several locations in California and recently opened their first San Diego location a few months ago.

Those of you who have been reading along for a while may know how much I love mochi donuts. I used to get them in Taiwan and Japan long before they became a trend in the US. I’m definitely happy to see that they have finally come to San Diego and that we have a few places to get mochi donuts from (one of my favorites is Bing Haus).

Mochinut is located next to Iceskimo, replacing Bite Sized Bakery.

Mochinut has over a dozen donut flavors but offers them on a rotating basis. They offer five different flavors at a time and rotate the menu every three days. You can always find their latest menu flavors posted on their Instagram.

During my visit the flavors were: cookie monster, almond, strawberry banana, churro and original. You can buy either half a dozen or a dozen donuts. I got a dozen.

It was recommended that we eat the donuts right away. The donuts were soft and chewy and tasted very fresh.

We weren’t able to finish all of them in one day, so we were able to test how well these held up the next day. Unfortunately, they were quite a bit heavier and greasy the next day even after using our air fryer to warm them back up. Most of the mochi donuts I’ve had don’t usually hold up well, so this isn’t really a criticism of their donuts.

Overall, we liked the mochi donuts. I also like that they rotate flavors often. They also have the option to order online through their website to avoid any wait.

On another note, I know I’m not sharing as many dining posts on the blog anymore (for a variety of reasons). However, I do try my best to feature local spots and share what I’m eating over on Instagram Stories and my San Diego dining stories are saved in the highlights on my profile.
