Puesto (The Headquarters)

We recently visited the new Puesto location inside The Headquarters at Seaport District. While the La Jolla location is a fast-casual eatery, the downtown location is quite impressive. The sit-down restaurant consists of two stories, a full bar area, and a patio for dining.

I really love the way they decorated it, especially the woven chairs.

The menu offers all the favorites from the original location, but expands on it as well, including desserts, appetizers, and cocktails.

Unfortunately we didn’t plan our visit in advance, so we were only able to grab some patio seating. We got great service, but the lighting was quite poor, making it difficult to take good photos.

Ahi Tuna Ceviche
radish, cilantro, avocado, jalapeño, jicama tostadas

Each ceviche bite was garnished differently. I chose the flower one because I thought it was prettiest.

Instead of using traditional fried tortillas, the tuna ceviche was served on disks of crunchy jicama. It was a refreshing, healthier twist, though the jicama overwhelmed the tuna somewhat.

Filet Mignon  (guacamole, pistachio jalapeño), Carnitas (traditionally braised pork, guacamole, tomatillo verde), Cochinita Pibil (slow roasted, ancho chile marinated pork, pickled red onions, tomatillo roja )

We also chose to share a trio of tacos.

The Filet mignon was soft and tender, though at an additional $2 surcharge, I would have loved to see a little more meat. Of the trio the Carnitas was my favorite. Mr. K preferred the Cochinita Pibil.

The tacos quality was on par with the ones we’ve had at the La Jolla location.

While the prices are higher than the La Jolla location, I really enjoyed our visit. One of the issues I always had with the original location was that it wasn’t really a place to take friends, but with this location, we have a sit-down location to eat at.

  1. I still haven’t visited their LJ location. I really like how this location has 2 stories and is more of a sit down restaurant. Do they offer you complimentary chips or anything? The filet mignon taco looks good.
