Tea Garden recently had its grand re-opening. It previously had occupied the space next to Pangea Bakery, but then moved to a nearby plaza. Despite the re-opening, the menu is exactly the same. The space is now divided into two areas, which makes the dining sections look smaller.
Our last few visits to Tea Garden had only been for their milk tea. I’ve really enjoyed the roasted oolong milk tea. With the grand re-opening, we decided to give the food another try too.
The whiteboard featured some of their most popular items.
Minced Pork Stew Rice
This is a popular Taiwanese dish. The braised pork belly is cooked in a thick broth made of soy sauce and spices. Its served over rice, with the sauce flavoring the rice. I thought this was a decent version, but I prefer the versions I’ve had in LA.
Lunch dishes come with either black or green tea.
Spicy Pepper Beef
Thin strips of beef, bell peppers, canned bamboo, sauteed with a spicy sauce.
Overall, things here seem to be much the same. I was hoping they might add some menu items or spruce up the decor, but it looks like the only real change is the location. It’s a decent option for Taiwanese cuisine in San Diego, but nothing particularly special.

Is this location cleaner? The last time I went there was bug in my cabbage :(p
Well it’s pretty new so it seemed clean. I didn’t have issues before with finding bugs in my food though. That’s unfortunate.
I saw one of the cooks few months ago and she told me this location will have more parking? Did you notice an improvement? B/c this location is next to Chopstix right – and that parking lot is terrible during peak hours.
Yeah I don’t think this parking lot is much better. Heh.
The only new menu item I’ve seen is the Tea Latte – it’s your choice of green/black/oolong tea, with a layer of foamed cream at the top. It was really good (if not just a tad gimmicky). I also wished that they revamped the menu a bit (or improved some of the current items…), though!
Oh i did see the tea latte, though I usually just like to stick to the regular milk teas. I might try it next time though.
