We had some friends drive down from LA this weekend and they really enjoy Carnitas’ Snack Shack, so we took them to the newest location in Del Mar. I posted about the new location pretty extensively here, so this post will mainly be photos.
Guacamole and Chips
On my last visit, it seemed like a lot of people were ordering this, so I gave it a try. It was a nice guacamole, but nothing particularly special.
Samoas Donut
The donut special was a Samoa donut. I loved the gooey caramel and coconut topping, which really captured the essence of the my favorite Girl Scouts cookie. However, much like the Elvis donut I got last time, the donut itself is plain and only the frosting and toppings change. I still think the price is too steep ($5) for a donut.
CSS Burger
The Carnitas’ Snack Shack burger has always been a solid one in my opinion and everyone in our group seemed to enjoy this.
Fries with bacon ketchup
We also had a side of fries with the bacon ketchup. The highlight is definitely the smoky bacon ketchup.
Pork Burger
I found this to be overly salty last time and felt the same again. I enjoy the patty and the bacon candy (they gave us extra bacon candy at no extra charge), but the cheese overwhelms the burger.
Pork Belly App
And of course, we can’t ever leave here without ordering the pork belly app. As usual, it was my favorite dish. Tender pork belly meat braised in a sweet chili sauce.
Overall, we had another solid meal here. We really enjoy this new location and the ample indoor seating. The air conditioning was especially welcome since it was so hot over the weekend.
