Sweet Tea Mimosas are a mimosas with a tea twist. They’re an easy cocktail to make for brunches and holidays.

If you’re looking for a New Year’s Eve drink idea, here is my recipe for Sweet Tea Champagne Cocktails, or Sweet Tea Mimosas, as I like to call them.

When we were in Nashville, one of the local signature drinks was sweet fruit tea. It’s basically the Southern-style sweet tea with fruit juice added, usually orange juice. We really loved it because it cut back some of that sugary sweetness.

Once we got home, I used those drinks as inspiration for these sweet tea mimosas. This cocktail combines sweet tea, orange juice, and champagne. It couldn’t be simpler, and it’s tasty and festive-looking, too.

Ingredients

  • Brewed black tea
  • Champagne
  • Orange juice
  • Simple syrup

Tea: Black tea works great in these drinks.

Champagne: Pick the kind you like to drink. I prefer dry champagne because it’s not sweet. It works well with the sweet fruit juice and simple syrup.

Orange juice: You only need 1 ounce of juice, so I recommend squeezing fresh juice instead of using prepared orange juice.

Simple syrup: You can buy simple syrup or make your own. Just combine equal parts water and granulated sugar in a small pan. Heat the mixture until the sugar has completely dissolved.

How to Make Them

The drinks are easy to make: just mix all of the ingredients, pour into champagne glasses, and garnish with fresh fruit.

You can brew the tea, squeeze the juice, and make the simple syrup the night before to make things easy. Just keep them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to mix the drinks the next morning.

These sweet tea mimosas are inspired by the sweet fruit teas we had on a trip to Nashville, TN. These drinks combine the best of southern sweet tea with bubbly champagne and are a great make-ahead cocktail for holiday celebrations. Brew the tea and make the simple syrup ahead of time so when it's time for drinks you just need to mix and serve!

Ingredients

  • 2 oz brewed black tea
  • 2 oz champagne
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup or more or less based on taste preference

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients in a champagne glass. Serve chilled. Garnish with fresh fruit (like raspberries) and mint, if desired.

Notes

How to Make Simple Syrup:  In a small saucepan, boil 1 cup of water with 1 cup of sugar until dissolved. Transfer the syrup to a container. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to a month.
