McDonald’s New Quarter Pounder Burgers

McDonald’s recently launched their new Quarter Pounder burgers made with 100% fresh beef and cooked right when you order. I was lucky enough to attend a media event for the launch of their new burgers, where I got to see the burgers being made in their kitchen and taste the burger too.

Over the years I’ve tried nearly every new menu item at McDonald’s and this is definitely up there as one of my favorites. The burgers are being marketed as hotter and juicier and they really do deliver.

If you do a fair amount of cooking, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the difference between using frozen versus fresh meat is huge. The taste, the texture, the appearance- everything is different. So the fact that McDonald’s switched to 100% fresh beef for their quarter pounder burgers is a big change.

During the media event, I got to step inside their kitchen and watch them make the burgers. We watched as the employee took the fresh patties out of the fridge and placed them on the hot grill. The burgers were seasoned with a single shake of salt and pepper. The patties developed a beautiful crusty sear as they cooked on the hot flat iron grill and you could visibly see the juices flowing.

I wish I could show you what I got to see because seeing the fresh-off-the-grill juicy sizzling burger patties was quite a sight. Despite all the people in the room, I could hear my husband’s whispered “whoa” when the patties came off the grill.

Once the tour was over, we went and placed our order at one of the self-order kiosks. Currently, the quarter pounder comes in two variations: Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

The Quarter Pounder with Cheese burger features a ¼ lb. of 100% fresh beef that’s cooked when you order. It’s seasoned simply with just a pinch of salt and pepper and cooked on a flat iron grill. The patty is layered with two slices of American cheese, slivered onions, pickles, and served on a sesame seed bun.

When our burgers arrived, upon first glance I could already see the difference. The color of the beef, the glistening juices– all the result of using fresh beef.

And it tasted as good as it looked. The burgers had a more beefy flavor and they were incredibly juicy as well. My favorite part of a burger is always the patty and after tasting a bite of this patty, I switched with Mr. K and took his double quarter pounder with cheese so I could have more of the meat.

Mr. K enjoyed the burger so much that he had it again the next day for lunch.

We both really enjoyed trying the new quarter pounder burger and I feel that the quarter pounder is noticeably improved with the use of 100% fresh beef. It is also juicier and hotter as advertised. I do think it’s worth checking out next time you’re at McDonald’s.
