Last month I read several pizza-related posts, which really made me crave pizza.

So over the weekend, I decided to make some homemade pizza dough, turning to my favorite easy pizza crust. But then I wondered if you could make it even easier with self-rising flour, so I looked for some recipes to try and found one I liked.

The original 2 ingredient dough recipe is from Kid Spot Kitchen. I’ve since fiddled with the ingredient ratio and the dough-making process. How the dough comes together makes a really big difference, so please pay attention to the instructions.

The crust is thin, bubbly and crispy. It tastes amazing and it’s so easy to make, with just two ingredients: self-rising flour and Greek yogurt.

Notes About 2-Ingredient Pizza Crust

I tried making this Greek yogurt pizza dough a few different ways and I was surprised to find that each method produced varied results. One method made the dough soft and another made it pale and doughy, etc.

It helps if you have a stand mixer with a dough hook – it makes it a lot easier to mix and knead the dough. If you don’t have one, you can do it by hand but it will be a little messy and will take longer for the dough to get to the right consistency.

I have shared detail instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post. This 2 ingredient pizza dough is not hard to make, but achieving the right consistency is important for achieving a crispy thin crust.

You can top the pizzas with whatever you want. I bought fresh mozzarella balls and made a simple margarita pizza that tasted divine. I also made another one topped with lots of prosciutto and fresh basil (I know it’s usually topped with arugula, but I don’t really care for arugula).

You can also use pepperoni, salami, or other cooked meat for toppings. Or make a veggie pizza with peppers, mushrooms, onions, an black olives.

For cheese, fresh mozzarella or low-moisture mozzarella cheese will work great. You can also use other good melting cheese like provolone or cheddar cheese. Some shredded Parmesan is also good on top of the pizza when you serve it.

Since this is a thin-crust pizza, you don’t need lots of pizza sauce or marinara sauce. A light coating is plenty. Or, you could try Alfredo sauce or some garlic oil on the crust for sauce.

I love how pretty these pizzas turned out and they were so quick and easy. The flavor of the crust is great and I love that I can use pretty much any pizza topping I like. I hope you try this 2 ingredient pizza dough recipe soon!

The dough for this pizza bakes up thin, bubbly and crispy. This crust tastes amazing and only has two ingredients. It's easy to make, but make sure to follow the directions carefully to achieve the thin, crispy crust. If you don't your crust texture won't turn out the same.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour (see note)
  • 1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • cornmeal for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Add 1 1/4 cups of flour (reserve 1/4 cup) and yogurt together in a bowl of a stand mixer. Mix together with a large wooden spoon or spatula until all the flour is moistened. Use knead attachment on mixer and knead on high speed for 5 minutes. Dough will initially come together into a ball and pull away from the sides, but as it continues to knead, it will become very sticky. Add in remaining 1/4 cup of flour. Knead dough again. Dough will once again break apart and then come together into one ball and pull away from the sides. Stop kneading as soon as the dough just comes together again, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Make sure you watch the dough and stop it once it becomes a ball, otherwise if you continue to knead it, it will become super sticky again and unworkable.
  • Sprinkle some flour onto a pastry board or other large surface to roll out your dough. Split dough into two. Roll one out into a round pizza shape about 1/4 inch thick. If needed, sprinkle a little flour on both sides to make it easier to work with. Repeat with other dough.
  • Put whatever toppings and sauces you wish on pizza. Generously sprinkle cornmeal onto pizza stone. Place one of the pizzas onto the pizza stone and bake about 10 minutes until dough rises, bubbles up and turns a golden brown. Remove finished pizza from stone and then bake the second pie. Eat immediately.

Notes

  • If you don't have self-rising flour, you can make it by mixing 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 1/4 tsp baking powder, 3/8 tsp salt.
