This microwave sugar cookie is so easy and the perfect treat when you’re craving something sweet. It’s ready in less than five minutes!
I am in love with the single serving cookies I’ve been creating, especially the birthday cake cookie.
This time though, I decided to play around with a microwave version.
You can make the dough in about 2-3 minutes. Then it cooks in the microwave in just 50 seconds. And it’s ready!
Because we’re working with a microwave, there are certain sacrifices made. It doesn’t come out as perfectly round, and it doesn’t brown or get crispy around the edges like the oven version, but it’s fast and easy and still yummy. The cookie comes out soft and sugary and full of delicious Spring and Easter colored sprinkles.
You can also cook this in a mug, and make it a mug cake cookie, but I prefer mixing the ingredients in a mug and then cooking it on parchment paper so that you can get the traditional cookie shape.

Microwave Sprinkles Sugar Cookie
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 3 tbsp all purpose flour
- 2 tbsp granulated white sugar
- 1 tbsp whisked egg
- 1 tbsp sprinkles
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except sprinkles into a mug or small bowl, mixing with a small whisk until a smooth dough forms. Stir in half of the sprinkles.
- Line a medium-sized microwave-safe plate with parchment paper. Scrape out dough into the middle of the parchment paper. Shape dough to resemble a cookie shape (like a thick round disc).
- Add remaining sprinkles to surface of the cookie. Microwave for approximately 50 seconds. You cookie might be done slightly sooner, but I don't recommend more than 50 seconds as it will turn the cookie hard and brittle. Cookie is best consumed right away.

I didn’t like it. It turned out as cake
We’re sorry to hear that – the cookie is supposed to be soft (it won’t be soft and chewy like a regular cookie because of the way its made). We have an recipe for a baked single serving sprinkle cookie you might like better.
Way too much butter, took over the entire taste of the cookie.
Are you sure you measured correctly? There is only one tablespoon. Also, sugar cookies are meant to be sweet and buttery.
It wouldn’t cook!
What wattage is your microwave?
Simple, delicious and super easy. Perfect if you are craving a cookie but you don’t have time to make a whole batch.
We’re happy you loved it!
Doubled the recipe, left out sprinkles but Added 1 tsp of almond and 1 tsp of vanilla, yum!
That sounds great!
soo good but i used egg whites, added a pinch of salt, and i put 1 spoon of flour at a time to get rid of lumps also you dont need parchment paper just put it in a mug
Thanks for sharing your experience! We’re glad you loved the recipe.
gave me suger high super good you would think microwave cookie would be bad there super good also i used no eggs awsome
I’m glad you enjoyed!
Mine did not work out very well the dough was really crumbly so the cookie did not cook right
the dough should not be crumbly. Did you make sure to add enough butter and egg?
Made this a million times thank you.
I’m glad you enjoyed!
can i leave it overnight!!
the cookie needs to be eaten right away as it will stiffen and dry out.
Can you chill the dough(so it’s easy to shape and cut) before microwaving it?
you still wont be able to cut it.
Can you put it in the microwave without parchment paper?
it will stick to your plate, so i definitely don’t recommend it
I loved this! Everything was perfect other than I had to bake mine in the microwave for about a minute and 15 seconds and then had to put it in the fridge for a couple minutes, but it was still great! Thanks!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I really like it too
Do you have to add the sprinkles
no, but it will likely tasted very plain without it. also im not sure if it will be sweet enough because ive never tasted or tested it without the sprinkles
Yes but add a bit of vanilla
Can you also put them in the oven to make them fresh for a longer while? And if you can should you put something else in them?
I’m not quite sure I understand your question. Are you asking if you can bake the cookie instead of cooking it in the microwave?
If you’re making it a mug cake cookie should it also be in the microwave for 50 seconds?
yes! keep it at 50 seconds.
This recipe is a winner. Thanks for sharing it.
so glad you like it!
I loved it, but mine didn’t rise.
it shouldn’t really rise much since it’s a cookie. it should just spread and cook.
Oh this is so cute! My daughter would love making this – she likes funfetti, sprinkles, etc.
Ooh, she should make this one then! Also the baked version is super yummy too.
